Was cruising with my bro to the pub to watch the Moto GP when this silly fucking Asian pulled a U turn in front of me. I had no chance of stopping and hit him at around 50kph.

Bent my forks scratched up all the left side here and there oh well at least I'm ok.

Howh strong are the frames on these things ????? 2013 fatboy

That sucks, Do you/they have insurance ?
The frames are pretty good, and probably OK if the hit was soaked up by the forks.
Would obviously still need to be checked.

Yeah it's a bummer for sure. I have spent so much and put heaps or time into it (like most of us) and to see it laying on its side on the road was a bitch.

     Yeah he is insured

bike got towed will be dropped off at my dealer tomorrow so we will see how we go (no whe near enough to write it off).

Firstly I'm hoping you've got all his details and any independent witnesses ? Other than your brother.

That fucker had better have rego AND insurance AND a current non bodgy Australian licence

Police on "your side" from minute 1 ?

The frames are strong , it's the cosmetics than can run to many thousands VERY quickly

Up until the flood of used yank imports, Harleys were " written off" by your insurance company very readily.

That's 'cause the "wrecks" sold for wanker high money at auction . That's no longer the case !

So your insurance company may/may not decide to repair . These are my personal scenarios over the years

1995 Dyna hit head on in 1997 , broken forks tank etc OK , " written off" and sold for FORTUNES at auction for rebuilding

    ( 17 yr old "P" plater )

2006 Dyna knocked over from the left and somersaulted in 2009 , cosmetically fucked every which way.

(75 yr old Catholic Priest.) "Repaired" ??

It's WHATEVER costs the Insurance company LESS at the time , but you "may" have some say

P-Platers , decrepit old cunts and Asians , fuck no wonder we ride paranoid !

Bloody cage drivers if they don't see a car they don't see anything, you must have good control of your temper i'd have tried to punch his lights out, anyway as long as your okay thats the main thing, fatty frames are strong but a fifty k hit is  fairly substantial, hope all goes well for you Hoges.

Yeah bad news , there is no excuse for that shit it just shouldn't happen , hope it all comes up ok , my heritage was never quite the same after the missus and I were taken out and it got over $7k worth of repairs , reinforces the reason I've never let my girl get her licence for 18yrs , never drives but still swears she is a great driver hey , first and last time I let her get behind the wheel in my yard I near lost my car , house and boat , Asians definitely drive better from the passenger seat , most are born on bikes so you would think that they would know better , then again in Thailand they do play 'bigger vehicle rules much of the time hey ?
Not good in Oz , especially being a new ride and all , lucky I guess if not to be worse or injured ?
Definitely getting noticably worse on the roads for people pulling out or doing fucked up things like no look u-turns over double lines , being 2 of ya's it's a wonder he never seen or heard ya's ?
Living west of Sydney i almost expect this sort of shit to happen every time I get on me bike now , see it far too much !

Lucky you Hoges on the score of no serious injury. Could have been much worse. Bummer about the Fatty but you'll get it sorted I'm sure.

Roundabouts are a real problem on bikes but much more so on a pushbike I think. I'm in Noosa and there's barely a day I go out on my pushy that I don't nearly get cleaned up on a roundabout. The average driver has 'NO F**KING IDEA ABOUT WHAT TO DO ON ROUNDABOUTS' and the cops just don't seem to worry or care. When was the last time you saw a highway patrol checking on indicators etc on a roundabout? "Never!" Well that's the same up here too.

There was a woman killed by a bus on a scooter up here some months ago at a roundabout... you'd think that would start to ring bells for the police but it doesn't seem to matter.

I am sick and tired of hearing / reading about this sort of behavior. I was taken out by a stupid bitch who wasn't paying attention and did a U-turn on double white lines during peak hour traffic. Took me 6 months to walk again after shattering my hip and pelvis. Her response "Oh I didn't see you". I think it's about time we start naming and shaming. Post up a description of the car and rego as a warning to all.

And I nearly got cleaned up less than 5 klm from home going to work this morning at a roundabout.
I was going straight, car on left real close slows then speeds up as if he's going through then slams on the brakes.
I'm guessing he was looking out for the other cars and not me.

How could the Facktard not see my headlight...........took the heart rate up a notch.

That sucks Hoges, lucky you weren't doing 80 or 100 km, could have been real messy. Hope you get it sorted out soon.

Hey sorry to hear your bad news Hoges. All the best getting your ride fixed.

A few months back,  I had some woman in a cage try lane swapping in front of me.  My front wheel was was about 1 & 1/2 metres from her rear bumper, when she starts drifting right into my lane, not even using her indicator or shoulder check before decides to scare the living daylights out of me. You should have seen the look on her face when I pulled along side her, I could see her mouthing " sorry I didn't see you".  FFS, you learn those fundamentals when doing your lessons with your driving instructor whilst on your learners.

now im 7rs after major accident just on my way home from work, never be able to walk or run or even get job as injury was severe ,and gone through hell besides I still have a leg but I have to take painkillers everyday just to feel relief from pain ,they say it,s nerve pain from near severed foot and kneecap was ripped out leg broken several places ,thank,s 2 doctors I still have leg but not sure I should have kept leg ,as its giving me grief u cannot go without meds its just unbearable ,anyway lawyers said to me motorcyclist,s are looked at by judges as hoon,s and no matter if you are totally in the right regardless of what car driver did,you will never be 100% in the right as precedents of past accidents and amounts of money awarded have a limit .I had meeting me vs them in room at court and the most blame was me %60 car %40 at first they said %80me %20 car this went back and forth ,now im a pretty firey sorta bloke and got up and was goin 2 do the wrong thing but my lady lawyer grabbed me and told me 2 sit down ,was on crutches at time anyway we all left meeting with no result except lawyer saying 2 me were fuked ,luckily workers comp was my ace as they payed me nearly 5yrs then gave me a payout ,as I had 2 things going insurance and compo in the end I got nothing from insurance as would have 2 pay all compo back dr,s hospital op.s and all other expenses that happened through my rehab ,the amount was quite large that insurance would pay but 2 pay back all costs from injury would not be enough and I mite lose my house ,so in the end compo payed me out so I was lucky that I had 2 angles going totally separate of each other ,but I whish I just was able 2 have a normal leg again money nearly gone cant get job and can only walk with aids not much fun o well walked away from all other accidents not so lucky this time SHINGLES

Sad and frustrating to hear of all the accidents written about here, Shingles particularly, keep positive mate, best you can, eh!

A bit off topic, but related, I watched a show on SBS about how the brain works, how we can be tricked and so on. But the relevant bit here is scientific studies show that as humans, we've evolved to only really have to concentrate on one thing at a time, which we do well. 'Multi-tasking' is only really something new, since lifestyle and technology have only recently evolved to the point where it can be applied, and actually, we aren't any good at it (and yeah, not even women!!). So driving and doing anything else at the same time is dangerous....

The show also demonstrated how this applies to situational awareness and the upshot of that was the revelation that even though drivers will often look before they manoeuvre, they may not 'register' that a bike is bearing down on them, even if they do 'see' it, because they are looking for a car aren't expecting to see a bike....and so the brain doesn't process it.

That was a bit of a summary, made from my memory, but I think that's the guts of it.

So I don't think we'll ever stop this shit happening, all we can do is be very very careful around cages, always try to have an escape route, and always be prepared to take evasive action at the drop of a hat.....
