bah, footpegs are slippery, will see how long they last on the bike. Brake pad excellent with the extra reach, definate improvement.

Removed the footpegs and shifter already, dont want them on even the basic oem is better. Either returning them or ebay. Considering the Harley Chrome Rubber with fold away heel rest, but very pricey for what it is around $250 rrp. Anyone got experience with heel rests? are they any good, do they assist in ride comfort?

06, yeah highly recommend the back rest, stops the natural curvature of the spine when riding harley position.

Volvi ... I have both the genuine fold away type heal rest pegs as well as the solid heal rest pegs that don`t fold away ... strangely I prefer the solid type ... have a couple of mates that prefer the look of the fold away`s simply because you can have a cleaner look but the problem I found was that there was still a bit of movement in the heal piece and it just didn`t feel right .

In my situation I think it came down to the fact that I had the solids on first and absolutely love them and when I did try the fold away`s I couldn`t convince myself to keep them on ... had them on for about 600 K`s or so over a couple of weekends ... the small down side to the solids is though that they move the peg out slightly which of course moves your foot further away from the brake peddle ... for what ever reason don`t seem to have the same problem with the gear shift side .

The main thing I will say though that they ... { both } ... are a fantastic compromise instead of going for floor boards ... another thing I noticed is that you have to make sure what ever pegs you go for make sure that when they are down all the way that there is a slight angle upwards in the peg if you know what I mean ... a mate put a dab of weld on the pegs mounting area because it seemed as his feet felt like they were sliding off all the time ... before I put the solids on I had a set of ISO standard pegs on and they did the same , just seemed to fold down to far in the mounting area of the bracket .

Unbelievable at how comfortable they are on a long ride ... hope I made some sense there , Lol .

I reckon im going to make do with the oem pegs for the while, they were good enough for a 2400 klm trip so am in no rush to replace them. Also other Air filters that I previously mentioned, I dont think they will add much and I prefer the looks of the original. Power Vision may be the next project with fuel moto map, I reckon that would add plenty to the bike and better value at 479 for the package then the 750 or 910 dyno + licence. Could always do a dyno later if map doesnt prove to be satisfactory.

some items ive listed on ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/busa4u/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=

Hi Lawmatt, that speedo/tacho is now common to most bikes even imports tho the importer has to bother paying a few bux more, some do some dont. try insist that they do as they have to change the speedo anyway for compliance. front brakes are actually very good tho mines an 09 not sure what you got coming, I cant say I really felt the need for extra pots. id say leave as is. i think later models like mines an 09 comes with braided black lines at some point they made that a stock item. pipes are friggin great, love them. no they hardly pop sometimes but rarely, they can be tuned well enough. i have a fuel pack on by vance hines. tho maybe changing it for a power vision soon sometime as i want to tune the air/fuel ratio that the fuel pack doesnt. you getting yours from Daytona? youll find lotsa ideas what to do to the bike in this thread. Good luck with it all.

My new addition. Shotgun Shocks. Bought second hand from someone in QLD who updated his bike. $550 + $50 post. Supposedly done only about a thousand k's and barely a year old. Reckon was a good deal. Not going to bother mounting myself when offered by professionals whos doing a special for me for $90. Will update & review after some use. Some new additions coming from the states later this month... When will it all stop lol? Now I understand what is meant when looking to buy a used Harley "depends what freebies shes got on". Fked if Im gonna leave them all on if I ever have to sell.

Currently doing oil changes. Trans.fluid was pretty grey, think it was glass clear when I got it (who makes clear transparent tran fluid?), now pink shockproof. Primary High Temp ATF, more pink/red. Main Red Line 20-60 but will be scavenging oil with Scavenger gizmo, so had to buy extra quart ontop of the gallon. Oil looked pretty dark coming out and filter impossible to get off, had to drill the fkr with 4 holes and lever it off. Slightly taller black then OEM dunno what the fk it was, no markings on it, makes me wonder if they in fact ever changed the fkr when servicing after importing. You cant be sure of anything till you do it all yourself.

Will check spark plugs have basic oem replacement, but wondering if I should go better with Gold? I read somewhere Harley were pulling their Platinum ones or something like that. Any advice? tapered tip, does it count for anything? Have new screaming eagle cables to coil  ready..... all part of the fun, aint it?

Hey Night Train owners, you finding this thread useful giving you ideas or you been down this road before and its all booooring? Dont reply all at once now hehe.

Keep it coming Volvi ... beats getting upset arguing about Adolf Newman up here in what was once a proud state and hopefully will be again when he and his ilk are gone ... $ 90 sounds like a bloody good price to get the shocks fitted ... real keen to hear what you reckon of the ride difference .

I don`t have a Night Train ... 2008 Softail Custom is mine but enjoy seeing someone having so much fun spending time on their bike ... good on ya ... but beware you will get knockers , this is Australia after all and we seem to have a bad habit of taking people down a peg ... wish I knew why ... anyhow keep the thread going ... well until you run out of money at least , Lol .

Volvi, sounds like you got a bargain for them shocks, even fitment price seems pretty reasonable too.

You can buy filter removal tools, probably the best one is the metal strap type that just slide over your filter.

I bought a tool from Peter Stevens that fits over the end of the filter and you use a ratchet and 3/8 extension bar to unscrew the old one. It has a cut out to clear the plug which goes back into the primary case. I think it may be for oil pressure or something. Will take a pic & post it later for you to get an idea.

Always love a train so keep it coming. Best looking bike hands down and will remain popular since being discontinued. My 08 train has some fruit. ( fat spoke rims, raked inverted front end, bars, exhaust, shotgun shock, etc etc etc. love it. Sadly I think a sale might be on the horizon !!!!

    Cheers

Thanks guys for the kind sentiments and support.

Tim, Softail Custom are sister bikes to the NT. Yea aka tall poppy syndrome, thass ok, me aint bothered as long as my bikes run well. My busa is shedding tears for being neglected, but well looked after and under covers. Gotta start her up sometime, due to go to Tas. next Feb on it for a fang. and the old 1989 classic CBR1000FK, gotta say hi to her too, going on club plates early next year....ahh lifes a bitch aint it.

06, I already have that harley filter removal tool, but since the filter wasnt gonna turn the top hex edges turned till the tool just did a dervish dance. also have the spider tool but no room to get around it at 360 degree. didnt have strap but made do with drilling the arse out of the fkr. wont have a prob with next filter change seeing I just hand tightened extra 2/3rds....as they say 'she'll be right'.

Yea Devo it was only the NT that captured my imagination as no other harley model and as you say since being discontinued a very sought after model. In fact Id say the most sought after in oz, they brought a heap in tho and still are coz theyre so popular. At least I can always say there wasnt an updated model, the last of the Mohicans.

    Shotgun Shock Evaluation

Had it mounted on Friday, cost me a hundred. Watching them do it it looks simple enough to install, however only if you have right equipment especially a lift. The guy never installed one of these before so I wasnt terribly confident in his ability. He hummed and haad saying it wont fit bla bla. But I said it should fit an 09. He trial fitted and wondered whether 3-4 mm clearance between compressor and shock would be sufficient. In the end its in, I only hope he installed it correctly. If anyone can verify that few mill clearance is sufficient and is the norm?

Unit working and trialled it over the weekend with a few rides. Though I believe to pump them up one should be able to lift both switches together and leave it to pump it by itself....that doesnt seem to work on this unit. Like have to keep switch up and appears only the forward switch is doing the work. Its still early days for me with these switches and they can get a bit confusing as what does what. But from what I gather so far, forward switch is ride height and rear switch rebound. Its mounted on the horn cowbell.

Performance so far. Pretty darn good. After trying a few positions trying to find the sweet spot, I found that riding with them gave me confidence in going over any rough road, rail lines etc. without having to have to prepare my body for the shock to the spine. I rode over some known troublesome spots where with the OEM's I had to "prepare". I went over these spots with no fear or shocks to my back. There was no bottoming out. Its important to be able to ride the bike without having to have to fear your shocks are not up to the task they were meant to be. So its a great psychological plus to know and have confidence that your back need not fear any road condition ahead. Bottom line if ones shocks arnt doing what theyre supposed to do, you gotta look at changing them. So far so good.

Of course if I got a brand new set from the states I would feel more secure that the unit would be perfect, being second hand how can one really know as the question why the seller sold it and not use it for his next bike. But I think he reckoned they were not suitable for his new bike, I quote "I had them on an 09 Rocker and traded the bike on a FatBob". Anyway they're on and I paid less than half new price and so far seems to be working as it should. JD from SS said of the unit "Thanks for using shotgunshock and your unit is completely warrantied."

Keep it coming mate, enjoying the thread. I understand what you mean about "Preparing" for rough road. And the tail end gets a bit soft when taking a decent corner too. Did the shotguns sort that out for you?

cant say much as yet for twisties, but over rail tracks and bridge dividers it sure solved the problem. theres a section the locals will know, when leaving the city on Kings Road then up onto bridge leading into Kingsway, there are many bridge sections/dividers that my OEM was definitely not coping with, now its a just a breeze through.

I checked with JD and paste it here in case anyone needs these answers in the future.:

    Hi JD,

I had the shock installed but have a few questions:

    1. Currently have "Forward" switch with Green - Orange - Burgundy, wires
and "Rear" switch with White - Red - Blue, wires

is this the correct setting? I am not sure its correct or opposite of what it should be?

    2. The switches both in UP position (also down,in case I have them wrong) do not stay Stationary, I have to keep holding them up. Arn't they meant to stay up till neutralised?

    3. The compressor head is touching the shock body with no clearance. On inspection I noticed the middle screw on mounting bracket was not installed just both side ones to bottom of bike frame. Could this be the reason?

    His answers:

1.Yes, you have the wiring correct

    2. the switches are momentary now, not stationary

    3. sounds like the pinch bolt is not installed in the bracket on the compressor. it needs to be installed to prevent movement of compressor.
The compressor has about 1/4" clearance when properly installed. Also do not over tighten the pinch bolt on the compressor bracket, or it will cause the compressor to not work properly.

Yea I will have to go back and have that middle pinch bolt sorted out.....@#$% amateurs. you only get what you pay for lol.

Kuryakyn Widow Grips and Foot Controls.

Whilst attempting to sort out the pegs, I ended getting the whole Widow Collection. The set is impressive and goes well with skeleton mirrors. However its not perfect, chrome work is ok but not Harley quality. For the Gear Lever they simply used one of the same heads as the stirrup. It needs to be bigger and one made specifically for the purpose. The footpeg and attached stirrup is fully adjustable and changes the way the riders foot rests on the pegs. Jury is still out whether its better then pivoting a foot on round pegs. Brake pad has to be reached for. Overall it has appeal, bit bulky but an eye catcher.

Question: This is the first Throttle Boss I have ever used and found it a bit annoying and not sure if it serves much of a purpose. I found it making throttle control less sure and secure as part of the palm rests on it and sometimes applies pressure on it when you dont want it to. So far Ive found it uncomfortable to have it on, it can easily be removed by unscrewing the end cap, but will experiment and ride some more with it on. Whats your experiences with these throttle boss?

I've got the throttle boss on mine, it's ok if you want to give your fingers a it of a stretch on a long haul, but around town I don't bother using it. I'm thinking of sticking on a quick release throttle lock instead. I've got the zombie levers and grips etc, but not entirely happy with my current pegs up front, thinking of changing them for ones that give a bit more leg room. Maybe I should have gone for 3" extension kit than the 2" ones that I fitted. I like the zombie mirrors though.

Hey Volvi ... see what you think of the throttle boss after a long ride ... really helps in stretching the fingers , just use your palm ... was wondering though how the hard chrome ridges of the hand grips would go on a long ride or even in the rain .

As usual though if you like the feel then go for it .
