     Hey All !

i have been selling motorbikes for just under two years now. I recently got offered the opportunity to sell Harleys and obviously jumped at it.

im not putting in here where i am working because i didnt want to be cheeky and look like i was drumming up business.

    i have a genuine question....

how do you like to be approached in terms of buying a bike??

what do you like about salespeople and what do you not like?

i am very new to bikes, i have only been riding since 2008 so i definitely have heaps to learn..i tend to talk about the emotions and phsyical side of riding rather than technical knowledge (mainly because i dont have much haahahah)

    Rule No 1, Dont bullshit.

    Rule No 2 Dont Bullshit.

Recently took a mates tyre in to be repaired (tube blew after hitting a pothole on his way to Merimbula, ruining his week off) So he rings me sunday morning on the side of the road, I pick him up and he drives to Merimbula in the car. I take the tyre in Monday morning, But their tyre machine is rooted and they are waiting for a replacement motor, motor comes in, yep we will have it done today (Thursday) I go in on Friday and the switch to run the motor is no good but we will have it done today. 9 days later its still not done! If the guy had of been honest and said we may not get it done I might have some respect for him.

    Rule No 3 Dont Bullshit!!

Took tyre to another shop and it was done in 1 hour.

     thanks everyone !!!

i like the no bullshit rule...

my dad taught me from a very young age not to judge people regardless of how they look.

he was working on a $800 million waste management project in china and there was a funny little guy always there who dad would talk with.

rice paddy hat, things, shorts and a singlet. after a month of chatting every day with the guy my dad found out he was the man who stumped up the $800 million !!

No need to sell a Harley Cobber, your job is to help and make it as easy and as pleasant an experience for your customer who has already made the decision to buy the one they want.

It helps if you know the product inside out and can answer questions, but not essential as anyone with a clue knows that there's just too much to know. Hey, but you can always find out.

What all above have said is right too, specially the no bullshit, and don't crowd the customer parts.

Good luck Cobber, all them Harleys are already sold,,, you just gotta be the good bloke that can hook them up with the right owner in a right freindly and honest transaction.

I used to sell cars and crotch rockets, all i can say is sell the RIGHT bike to the RIGHT person. I will give an example of what i mean. when i used to work at ******** yamaha i had a fellow come in looking at a then new 2004 R1, I approached him and started talking to this gentleman and asked a few questions that i thought was relevant, we spoke for about an hour finding out that he was just returning to riding after 20 odd years and his last bike was a 1980 Gsx1100. A work mate put him on the R1 reckoning he would love it. Now this guy had no interest in track days or knee down antics ( he was told the R1 was the best of the best and the bike to have) He did say he was going to commute to work on it. Being a guy about my size which is 6'3 and solid i spoke with him of the day to day living with a hypersport bike. How his wrist take alot of weight in traffic and the upkeep of something like that, He asked me if i would like to let him test ride it so we did, I had an idea of what he wanted so i took out the FZ1 which for those that don't know Jap bikes is basically along the lines of a naked upright position with a slightly detuned R1 engine. we rode for about 50klms in traffic, twisties, highway then stopped for a smoke.
After a chat we switched bikes as his lower back was getting sore. upon returning to the dealership we asked me what was that last bike so i told him and went and got a brochure for him, sat down went through it with him. he was pleased with everything we spoke about and said goodbye.
30 mins later he comes back with a bank cheque for the price of the R1, i asked was it the red one he like and politely told me no it was the blue fz1 he wanted with some accessories and riding gear.

Moral of the story is as i said first the Right bike for the Right person. no good selling a bagger to a guy that wants a sporty or a Vrod to a guy who wants to tour with his wife

    Just my 2c
