hi everybody I have a question for you.....I just picked up my superglide pillion seat from my dealership and have bolted it to my stock solo seat ( 06 ) and installed it to my bike minus the grab strap. to install the grab strap I need to take my shocks off and jack it right up, so I havnt bothered yet. The problem I have is after putting the newly bolted together dual seat on my bike I am not too happy with its fit. it wobbles around at idle and when I grab the middle where it joins I can lift it a few inches away from the fender! this just doesn't seem terribly stable although I realise when I sit on it it shouldn't be a problem. Is this the case with all two part seats?? just seems a bit flimsy.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Gringo
hi uncle ho, the part number for the pad is 51474-06a and I don't know the stock solo seat number. they gave me a street bob seat first by accident but the leather patern didn't match. its a strange fit as the seat isn't secured anywhere in the middle between the two seats thus creating a point where the seat easily lifts up and away from the bike!
I don't really see a way out unless the grab strap is meant to hold it down somehow.
thanks
gringo
Hi Gringo... sorry about time taken to respond, little difficult sometimes from the phone.
I don't have the pillion pad anymore, but photos look identical to what I had. I assume this is what you have:
Here is a link to the instructions... http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Media/downloads/Service/isheets/-J03681.pdf
When I fitted this I didn't use the pillion strap.... and the kit included four (4) inch square rubber blocks... it stated to place these on the fender. That was no good for me as they look stupid with the pad removed so I placed on the underneath of the seat.
The pad bolted to the back of the solo seat where the original seat bracket was... that bracket went to the back of the pad.
It all fitted pretty well... and I had the pad on and off like often as I never used the pad unless I was taking a pillion. Ive since sold both and use Mustang seat and pillion pad... more comfortable and easier to fit the pad... taked a minute whereas it took 5 with the HD.
Perhaps a couple side whoto shots will help.
You may have to fit the strap as that will secure the pad down.
Uncle Ho,
thanks very much mate for your detailed reply. My pillion pad has the four rubbers already fitted underneath. I took the wifey for a spin today and under a bit of weight ( haha ) it went well with no complaints so I guess shes all good. this will do for now just gotta sort my suspension out and she will be sweet for a while.
thanks again
