Gidday all ... most likely been asked before but haven't found it as yet so here goes ... when people are talking Stage 1 ... Stage 4 ... and so on what are the ball park definitions .

For example with my current Softail , 2008 , I have a set of Freedom pipes ... High Flow air filter ... and Pc 5 installed ... what Stage heading  does that sit under .

Having some Cams put in with adjustable push rods and fuelling lifters ... will that change it`s Stage designation ... Just curious and trying to learn .

     Hey mate.  How goes it.

STAGE 1 = Basically just an air kit and pipes, and a tuner to sweeten it.

STAGE 2 = Basically Cams and lifters etc.

STAGE 3 is all about the heads.

STAGE 4 = Anything after that such as Turbos, pure billet block, maybe nitros.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

So if someone says they have done Stage 3, they habe pretty much done Air, Pipes, Cams, Heads etc.

    Make sense?

OH... another good way to look at it...

    Stage 1 = A bit of coin
Stage 2 = Lie to the mrs about the real cost
    Stage 3 = That's gonna hurt
Stage 4 = might lead to divorce!!

    LOL!!

Mr . Mongrel ... both of your reply's are perfect for me to understand ... looks like I will have Softail with a Stage 2 set up in about 2 weeks time , ye ha ... and if the more power bug can be fought off for awhile it will stay that way ... if the missus has her way anyhow , Lol .

Must admit to being pretty lucky in that department ... left Fred`s shop after booking the Bike in yesterday and the better half says how much it goner cost and I told her a few dollars and a bit more after that ... then she said will that be it then , which I replied probably not , and she just laughed ... just not sure if it was a sinister laugh or not , Lol .

Thanks for the definitions ... Tim .

The way Mongrel puts it is pretty much right unless you're dealing with Harley when you get to Stage 3 it's high compression pistons, valve springs, exhaust, pushrods. Stage 4 they add Heads and a bigger throttle body for more air. But yes you need to start bullshitting about cost at some point

SE stage 4 kit includes- CNC ported heads, 58 mil Throttle body, SE 259E cams 10.5 to 1 compression pistons, Perfect fit pushrods, SE clutch spring, SE pro super tuner, all gaskets.

sorry mongrol but has nothing to do with nitros, turbo or anything, its just all these parts coming as a kit

Yeah Mongrel , for me he out shines even Hendrix ... for me it has to be Clapton , when he`s playing real Blues only .. Stevie Ray of course and a old favourite , Peter Green of the Original Fleetwood Mac ... plenty of others of course but they would be my desert island music for sure .

Hey Ozy , yeah it`s coming along ... did you get to see the new paint work ... reckon it will be not to bad , nothing flash but a nice change up from the Anniversary colours .

It`s like a busy bee hive down there at the moment with the 4 of them going at it ... that`s if poor old Fred can ever get off the phone ... I see they have had to resort to the old message bank when you ring sometimes ... bit frustrating but totally understandable considering how busy he has got .

Yeah I noticed a different office girl as well ... could be wrong but I think she is already spoken for boys ... doesn't hurt to admire though .

So what type of Springer are you getting work done to ... at this stage it`s still looking good for a Saturday morning pick up ... although there is a out side chance it may be ready Friday arvo ... I`ll be happy either way , but if it did come home to poppa Friday night then I know where I will be after a obligatory test ride and that's with the old polish rag in one hand and a cold Bundy in the other .

If I see ya`s down there , I`ll be the one with heaps of Tatt`s , Goatee beard and extra padding around the mid drift ... geez that could be nearly a hundred different Harley riders that get around that area , Lol ... shouldn`t have to much problems picking me out ... huge grin and a empty wallet , Lol .

    Tim .

didn't see the paint work mate but sure it will be a big change when you see it all back together.

going for a ride up laidley way Saturday so wont be down there good luck with the pick up mate may catch you at GA one of these days.

springer is 2008 cvo running like shit that I can't get sorted (thundermax) but Fred is a bit busy so it will just have to wait. tempted to put it in the garbage and go back to the stock ecu but it's not my bike unfortunately

Got the baby back Friday night ... ye ha ... not massive no`s , but very happy ... will post Dyno runs and pics soon just have to load them into computer ... but before that we have Farking Fantastic weather up here at the moment so have to get out there and take advantage .

    Brief Description ... before Cams when I had .. Pipes .. Hi-Flow Air Filter .. PC 5 = 80.3 Hp and 94.37 Torque and now after S & S 583`s and a remap have ended up with
    84.55 Hp and a healthy 100.24 Torque .

Not earth shattering but a massive improvement in the torque department and considering it is still a stock 96 Cu motor and stock heads not to bad ... can really feel the difference at the bars and love the different rumble when idling at the lights or where ever .

Have asked this question before but memory fails me at the moment , what was the ball park figure for standard 2008 , 96 Cube Softail .. Hp and Torque ... the book says about 90 torque and carn`t seem to find a Hp figure .

Not sure if that is correct as my first Dyno base run after pipes .. air filter .. and PC 5 installed was only 73.57 Hp and 87.46 torque which of course jumped up after being mapped by Fred but one would have to think those figures would even be lower with the original restrictive pipes and air cleaner and no tuner .

Had a reread of manuals and one of them says the torque figure of 90 was with shorty pipes but still seems a little high ... is this a case of Mother Harley over inflating there own figures or a case of them doing a hundred runs in perfect conditions and taking the best one .

Not a big concern , just curious as to what some of you good folk have come up with over the years with all of your experience ... cheers guys , time for the road ... Tim .

not sure about stock 96 numbers but for cams A/C and pipes I think you have done well. Should be nice to ride now and you always have room to upgrade if the mood ever takes you with the heads.

yes great weather but a bit on the hot side out the lockyer valley way today but still a nice ride with mates and a real good lunch in laidley pub

Yeah Ozy ... bloody heaps better , exactly what I was looking for ... low to midrange punch ... and like you say plenty of room for improvement if the inner stirrings get to me , Lol .

your not wrong about how Hot it got today ... crazy how it can change so fast ... that's the flip side to having great weather up here , won`t be long and it will be to stinking hot and sticky to get out for a decent ride , especially with all the gear on .

It`s still good to hear a person can find a decent lunch in a country pub ... have been to a few of late and found them a bit disappointing ... Crows Nest ... Kingaroy ... even Canungra ... all ok , but just that , only ok ... has anyone started a thread on good old country food , Lol ... size .. price .. and service .

Ended up getting one of those Speedo / Taco combo`s today ... Gasoline wanted 393 + 87 to fit ... was going to fit myself anyway ... decided to check competition , Wackers , 345 ... went over to service department just to check I had the right plug and guy said he could do it there and then ... you bloody beauty ... 345 bought and fitted , hard to top that .

Haven`t played with any of the lights as yet ... every thing seems to work except my old bloody eyes , Lol ... numbers are considerably smaller that my old stock speedo but will just take a little getting used to .

Safe riding all ... Tim .
