    G'day,

I have a DK customs 2 inch tanks lift kit which I tried to install on my 2013 sportster custom today. I encountered an alignment problem once I had taken the front mounting bolt out and loosened off the rear bolt and then try to lift the tank up to begin installing the kit. The front of the tank was being forced to the left about 1 cm and I was unable to correctly align the kit. The coil and ignition key is all still in its original position I have not relocated them yet, with that in mind is there something I missed or has anyone encountered this problem before?

    Cheers

    Mate,

I had the same problem with my 2012 custom. As soon as you go past a 1" lift, the tank skews off to one side, and straightens up again at about 4.5", anywhere inbetween it seems impossible to have a straight tank. I ended up putting a diy 4.5" tanklift on. :-)

    All good now.

    Cheers

I have done this recently too, I cant remember but keep an eye on the steering lock barrel above the ignition clashing with the "ears" of the tank bracket, pretty sure that was my issue if you loosen the back bolt as well for the smallest amount of play, it should work for you. I made a 2" lift using just a flat piece of plate steel , so I cant comment on the kit. The other thing I remember cursing was the plastic crap that was on the tank bracket, bastard stuff to clean all of the sticky shit off.

Cheers for the replys/help. I removed the front and rear bolts, had to turn the tank on a near 45 degree angle to get it off. I had the same problem as mark to the letter; straightened up at about 4.5".

mark what brand of tank lift did you end up using?

I managed to install the coil relocation kit on the left side but need to raise that tank if I want to mount the ignition chamber above the new coil location.

Pretty sure if you lift it over an inch the bottom of the fuel tank where the fuel pump is hits on the backbone causing it to scew off to one side. Couldn't find a way around it so I left it alone.

    Carmo,

I originally purchased a DK Custom 2" lift, but ran into the problem of the tank skewing. So ended up making my own ~4.5" out of some old black aluminium pool fence I had lying around. I think the diameter of the round pool fencing was about 19mm. It was piss easy to do, and looks good.

In truth, you could use anything, at one point I was considering using some ornamental throwing knives or getting some chain link welded up, and stil may do the chain link in the future.

    Cheers Mark
