Hey guys, Just thought I would introduce myself briefly before I start putting up a few threads and contacting guys selling basket cases!

I'm 25 and live in brissy, I've been riding since I can remember and have recently finished building my first bike! Which just passed engineering the other week! It's a 72 650 bobber with full front and rear end conversion. I'll attach a photo below!

I know its not a harley and being a small little metric I'm looking forward to playing with some bikes with a little more CC's behind them!

I'll post up a thread today chasing some old rollers and hopefully we'll be in luck!

    Cheers, John

Haha, man she is fairly long !! But suprisingly good to ride! I'm looking at rephasing the motor some day to get a little extra power!!

You wouldnt happen to know anyone selling a shoelhead would you?!?!

    Cheers

Hey Tim, thanks for the questions and firstly sorry for the late reply, I got the email whilst I was out and forgot to follow it up sooner.

The bike passed engineering just a few weeks ago and was complied as an ICV. It wasnt a drama as I did my research first (this is the biggest thing!!) as to what direction I wanted the bike to go in and I spoke with numerous Engineers which are on the Approved persons list which QLD Transport will email out to you if you request it. Thing to note there is only like 2 max 3 engineers available in the wider Brisbane/Logan area which will actually do motorbikes. Thank fully I got in contact with a guy named Clinton Harry who is a gun and I have nothing but praise for his work, he is not only easy to get a long with and happy to answer the 101 questions you will have on a weekly basis, but is the only engineer willing to offer his services for a reasonable price. I say this because the other main guy in brissy quoted me some 3500 plus for the process (and its important to note he outsourced the break testing and noise testing to other providers). Where as I came im considerably lower then that with Clint. I can pass on his details if required but you can always google his name and engineering and youll get him quick smart.

As for frame I had my frame made for me in the states by one of the bike building shops over there, it was made from an original xs frame which the shop procured for me for 250 bucks and chopped and stretched with a fair few other bits including exhaust, batt box, forward controls etc etc. From there I had it air freighted to aus for about 3to 4 hundred I think.

All and all ive had a pretty smooth process when it comes to the build, My only advice is speak to an engineer first, and if your dead keen on doing it, set a date to meet with the engineer and look at your donor bike and talk shop or show them what you have to date and put down 100 bucks or so to come off the final price as a retainer, otherwise you wont be their priority as I was told 9 out of 10 guys that start the projects dont finish them!!

Also its work checking out if what you want to do requires a pre approval letter from QLD transport so you can get your surrogate vin issued etc etc!!

Always happy to share my experience and hope to answer any further questions that you guys might have!

    Cheers

Mate always happy to help. To be honest when I started the process of my build trying to get accurate info to go off was like trying to get blood from a stone!!

Everyone had their own interpretation of the requirements
Etc etc. it went as far as I had one engineering shop actually tell me I would never have a frame approved that wasn't welded in such a way that only their shop could weld with. This meant I was up for paying their huge prices to get them to weld my frame, funny thing is they wernt even close to being down with qld transport as an approved engineer etc etc. so pay close attention to what you're told and take people's opinions as just that, an opinion!!!

I've already started looking for my next project but I think it will end up being another metric as supposed to the old Harley's!! Maybe when I'm a bit more cashed up ill be able to build a one off Harley with one of them Evo engines I keep reading about, I've seen allot of different write ups about the older motors being unreliable etc etc !

    Cheers again!

He works out of Geebung, however usually just dose call outs!
