throttle thing

    hi all, another silly question.  there is a small four spoked gadget underneath my throttle (2002fatboy). what is it? i have  not had the time to play around with it yet and thought it would be good if somebody could give me the heads up. cheers

    Its a throttle lock. Tighten it up and it will lock the throttle in place.

    i thought thats what it was but how do you disengage when you need to FL?

    thanks kiwi thats what i thought it was. if youve got it tight can you still back off on the throttle, like twist the throttle back down?

    yes you can. inside the switch block cap, the screw thread tightens on to a plastic curved piece which in turn pushes on the throttle tube. In essence its a friction control.

    You can still turn the throttle either way but as Dave said, a hillbilly cruise control. Good for loooooooooong uninterupted roads. A bit dangerous to use as a cruise control, cause in a panic situation, you reach for the brake and clutch, and then your bike revs its tits off. not good.

    thanks for the info boys. i dont think i will use it . i rode across the nullarbor a couple of years ago and didnt need it then either. thanks again

    I LOVE my throttle lock on my Evo. I tighten it up just enough to help ease the pressure needed to hold the throttle open, so that i can still twist the throttle off if I have too. I NEVER tighten it up so hard that i cannot move the throttle at all - thats just plain silly.
