Fuel Tuner Required?

    Hi Guys

Have read some of the great threads regarding the 883-1200 conversion.

I understand I will need to have my ECM flashed to 1200 specs, but most threads also discuss the use of a fuel tuner such a s Thundermax. I am not sure (at this stage) if I will be able to afford the cost of a fuel tuner such as Thundermax.

Is a fuel tuner a necessity? Can I run the standard re-flashed ECM by itself with the conversion?

I wasn't aware of there being a cheap and easy way of flashing an ecu however hilly talks about there being an option in development right now, in another thread. Your current options require a module to reflash the ecu, using a shop that does this under software license fee, using a piggy back ecu or replacement ecu altogether.

Try a V&H Fuel Pak, a lot cheaper than a Thundermax.
The shop will want to fit a Genuine tuner.
I have a used Fuel Pak here if you are interested.

I had my 883 EFI Sporty converted to 1200 a couple of years ago.  The stock ECU was reflashed to 1200 stage 1 specs and it ran OK but was a bit lean and pinged a bit under load.  (I have SE slip ons and high flow air cleaner).  I wasn't really happy with the tune and eventually decided to go for the Dynojet Power Vision which made a huge positive difference to the bike.  Depending on your exhaust and aircleaner configuration you may not need a tuner.  See how it runs after the conversion.  If it isn't quite right get the tuner of your choice.  Don't waste your time with a Fuelpak though as they don't have the map to suit a conversion.
