Brake noise

    G'day,

My bike has recently developed a noise in the front brake. It's a low piched squealing type noise (almost like a 'moaning' sound) that only happens when I am braking really lightly - like when I am coming to a slow stop.

Checked the pads and they look like they have plenty of 'meat' left on them.

Any ideas as to what causes such noise and how to stop it?

I used to get a moan in my brakes in the wet mostly but then I change the disk as mine were worn below the limited so I put it down to that, they have been quiet ever since.

Brake squeal is sometimes caused by the pad vibrating - which would also explain why a light touch causes it to happen in your case. You can get a spray that I think goes on the back of the pad (so the metal side) which stops it.
I also remember ages ago seeing a guy rub his pads on the concrete saying they were "too smooth" and his squeal went away too. Maybe you should verify this stuff with someone that knows their shit a bit better than me though :P

Is your ride a 2000-2006/7 model?

Service Bulletin M-1192A "Swapping and Aligning Fixed Dual Discs" may be your answer. The fix in this case is to swap the disc rotors from the left to the right and right to the left. Note hole alignment is called for in this procedure..
Maybe your friendly Dealership will copy the SB for you?
