was there a big different in  $,  of the  S/Eagle case's  too  S&S case's  , esp if you gonna convert  S/eagle  to timken left main bearing's & bore out the barrel spigott's etc ,   all up $ different , S&S case's are already have  bored barrel spigott's for 4 1/8" barrels ,  comes with h'duty barrel studs  cam & main bearings   etc  when you add up the different ,                        that 640 cam can take a bit more comp on pump BP 98 a bit more hp = a big bit  more fun

Daddy R, Not sure if S&S do late model (2007 +) twin cam cases ?
The SE stuff is pretty cheap, SE cases cost me $750 + $325 for Timken conversion.

daddyracer56 there is a cost difference but as I wanted the SE cases because they look stock issue and have a HD engine number that I can use for rego and insurance I wasn't looking at the $$$. However the SE cases were $800 not sure what the bearings and machine work will be but the S&S cases in Black MSRP is $1,844.95 add to that the cost of exchange rate + transaction costs + shipping + GST on the import and I think I will do OK on it.
The S&S 124 kit supplies h'duty studs and head bolts due to the cylinders being .096" taller and with the inner cam bearings.

As for compression I would like to get it up as much as practical 11.5 : 1 or better. S&S suggest up to 11.5 : 1 for the 640. Andrew Badcock will be doing the tuning and he suggests at least 60 deg close at that CP to get it nice all round. The 640 is right at 60 and I am not sure I would like to go much more to be honest.
I could go up to the S&S 675 with 64 close at a minimum of 11.1 : 1 but I think that will move everything to far to the right on the curve.
I was looking at a CR650 cam but it only has 58 closing and when I spoke with Wes Brown he suggested it likes 10.5 - 11.5 :1
I got a little greedy on the 107 at 11.2 : 1 on Bob Woods suggestion with the 777 cams and it has a few issues with heat that I would like to avoid this time round.

    Open to any suggestions

S&S/Star use SE cases for 07 up engines, they did a deal with the moco. cause moco still have the patent.

ok like I said I wasn't interested and didn't give it much attention
the $1845.95 for the S&S black cases must be for the up to 2006 I guess. I thought they were working on late model cases of their own but haven't seen anything about them

good too see that you did your homework on her 1st,  a little comp bump will do her well on the 640 , i  help set up & port & polish the heads on the 124 that i race for a little while  & spoke to Dan Baisly about her he said not to use the 675 , we set up that 124 with high comp & she race  on BP98 no problems , that was the purple Dyna in that mag,                                  a little bit of a port & polish + a little bit of a comp  bump & she will be  sharp ,  cheers have fun

cheers. just been to see ollie and he has a few ideas to throw at it with ceramic and Teflon should be interesting. He also suggested staying around 11.1 / 11.2 : 1 and sticking with the 640 gears.
I think that's probably a sensible combination for it's intended use.
