They are designed with 2. it won't comply with only 1, and would have to get engineered with only 1 disc. Besides everyone wants more brakes on a harley, not less.

Why would you want to downgrade like this

Wouldn't call it a downgrade considering nearly all Harley models are single disc, it opens up opportunity for better wheels without machining for another disc, also looks better showing off more wheel. Personal preference I guess.

Engineering? Bollocks. You're changing to a system that offered by the same company for similar model bikes. No need to engineer it.

You'll need a different master cylinder. 9/16ths as opposed to the 11/16ths on it now. A plug for the splitter or a new brake line. A new right hand fork leg to neaten things up.

There are plenty of people looking to go to twin discs. You should be able to find someone willing to do a straight swap.

I would enjoy having a twin disk setup on the Fatboy, also it would cover up the shit looking stock wheels that they put on the Fatboy Lo.

As far as engineering goes, they should make it standard to have twin disks on all Harley's due to their weight. But if someone wants to show off their wheels go right a head.

Only problem with twin disk setups is that it makes it harde to clean your wheels.

I wouldn't want to be trying to claim insurance when I've halved my braking capacity.........

Can see exactly where you,re coming from Hutch .

If bike is involved in crash , then assesors look for a reason not to pay . Tyres , yes plenty tread . Brakes , yes plenty pad ... hang on , didn,t this model have twin discs ? Owner has removed disc , that,s the reason for crash , and he,s not covered cause he,s altered the brakes giving less braking performance than stock . Case closed , no payout .

If you must go to a single, worth looking at upgrading to a larger disc and better caliper.

How many Dyna models come with a single disc? How many with 2? Are all the single disc bikes wildly riding into walls becasue they've "run out of brakes"?

Apart from the brake hardware, what's the difference between a single disc dyna and a twin disc dyna? Sweet FA. So the single disc is more than capable of doing the job required of it. As I said earlier, as long as he changes the braking system over entirely, he'll have no problems.

Not sure what is involved - but guess what - I have a 2011 FXDC, single disc, and am looking at turning it into a dual disc.

So far I've been told a need a new lower, extra caliper, extra disc, new brake hose and dual disk brake cylinder. Also been told that machining is needed as the FXDC triple tree is narrower which makes the brake caliper to sit wrong. If no machining is to be done then the triple tree of a FXDB is needed as well.

Happy to swap parts if that works for you??

    thnx

    p.s. I like stopping power!!
