Raked frames - Anyone in Sydney

    Hi guys,

In the process of planning my next bike, got my eye on an early Softail but was out with a few mates today and can pick up a 93 FXR in great condition and really cheap.  It got me thinking about building a version of Mickey Rourke's Black Death 3 for myself, not going the whole HD & the Malboro Man look but similar.  Something like what I have put below; after doing a little research she comes with a whopping 42 degree rake which is pretty extreme.

Of interest, do you know anyone in Sydney that can rake a frame successfully? The reason I say 'successfully' is I imagine it is one of those things anyone can do but not anyone can do it right?

Just want to ring someone, find out what it would do to handling, what is involved, engineering post rake and any  most important what it would cost.  I'm not a fan of the stock FXR's but something like that badboy below could a very cool sooot!.  If it is financially viable, might snap up the FXR!

    Cheers

Wasn't the whole purpose of the fxr it's superior handling?! I would have thought doing the above to an fxr would be sacrilege.

Hey HD, how are you mate?

I actually started looking at that, but was on eBay US last night looking for a OEM frame that I could use. I think Paugho may also do a standard FXR frame as well? Its not a bad idea at all though, just got to work out whether the whole thing is going to be cost prohibitive. My concern is that I pick up an awesome example of an FXR at a great price but then end up dropping $10k on it. Have a few things to look into before I lash out and do the deal but I started looking at parts on line last night and it shouldn't be too expensive. There's heaps I'll do myself, just need to work out the cost to chop up a frame and get it certified post chop.

    Thanks mate

There's no need to cut up an original FXR frame to build a bad ass bike from one, no matter what style of custom you're into, just do more Google bashing for ideas. There's a great thread on the Jockey Journal titled "Show us your FXR" which has some fantastic pictures of all kind of great customs ;)

BTW I'm not advocating NOT to rake the frame, I love frame mods on bikes and my bike is based around it, but just saying before you find the cost too prohibitive on the whole project and walk away from the FXR consider the options further because with the right changes and FXR can look 10 times tougher than any Softail ever could.
