1996 softail starter motor.

 

replacing the starter etc on a mates bike. On the starter side of the primary there is an extension tube on the starter shaft. It has a circlip inside it. This is not in the centre so one side is longer than the other. I dropped the prick.

 

Which way does it go??

short side to starter motor or away from starter motor.

Don't say buy a manual, It's not my bike.
