Fat Bob Help Needed

I have a 2012 FXDF that was recently dealer fitted with a power commander 5 and dyno tuned.

The dyno sheet looked spot on - good power & smooth torque curve but....

Ran like crap on the road - lots of decel pop & just did not feel tuned.

Take 2/ Took it back to the dealer and they spent half a day with it on the dyno.

The result was a very similar dyno sheet but they added a lot of fuel down low to cure the decel popping.

Bike ran brilliant for a week - rode it 3 times.

Bike sat around in my garage for a week as we had freezing weather and some rain.

Next time it started and straight away it did not sound right - idle sounded weak.

Bike is vibrating more and feels out of tune again????

Took it back to the dealer and no fault codes all seems fine (to them)

Any ideas? -  I'm thinking electrical but not sure where to start

Why make it your problem, give it back to them to sort out, that's what I would be doing.

If you start playing with her, they will shift any blame off themselves and while shes under warranty use it.

Could be electrical, pinched wire, oxygen sensor, numerous other things.

Well it looks like I'm on the right track....

I stole the missus's blowdryer and unplugged all the PCV connectors and gave both sides a good dose of hot air to dry them out.

Test rode the bike and its smoother and not decel popping anymore - still not 100% but a signifficant improvement.

Next I'll do the same again and put some more dielectric grease in the connectors before buttoning them up - there was a little already on the connectors with one of them looking pretty dry.

Wondering what other connectors may need the same - will be looking at all the fuel related sensor plugs.

    what fuel you running

mines a bitch with anything other than bp 98 octain

once ran 95oct and i first thought i broke an engine mount it ran that rough

    and no power

cleaned out the fuel and has right ever since

98 fuel did not help - bike is running rough again.

Unlugging + hot air on connectors only makes the bike smoother for a short period

idle sounds weak and a bit erratic, bike has more vibration especially around 2.5-3k, feels out of tune & down on power

Will be going back to the dealer again!

     Hi Jim D

Hope the dealer sorts out the issue with your bike

Sorry I have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever so am useless to you

do you have any mods on the bike

was it running fine before the ttuner did they load the correct map? Stupid questions but something is definitely wrong with the work they did

curious to know how much horsepower it develops as I am thinking of going the same route

    i have2013 fatbob 103 cu s&s slipons.

Want high flow air and tune to go on at first service

    good luck sorting yours out

Bike is heading back to the dealer today so hopefully they can find what I suspect is an electrical issue ie bad connection, sensor or component!

Well I picked up the bike the other day.

They couldn't find anything wrong with it....Told me that their main mechanic took it for a ride and thought it went well.

No diagnostic red flags or faults and they did not think anything was wrong with it and that was all they could do!

I'm getting pretty pissed off and also questioning my sanity at this stage.

It still ran like crap on the road and talk about vibration!!!

This morning I disconnected the Power Commander and hooked up the O2 sensors again.

Went for a ride and its smooth as silk again (for a Dyna)

Bikes going back this week and they can try another PCV in it as the one I got MUST BE faulty.

Will update when I get it back.

    Good luck with it JimD

if you can notice such a difference with/without parts plugged in must be an issue. I'm sure you have done this but try to isolate each part 1 by 1 so as to narrow it down for the mechanic at the dealer. How I don't know but you want bob running sweet so worth persisting.

Let us know how you get on.

    Cheers

Oops just saw this was august last year. What a moron I am.

How did it work out JimD

Maybe the firmware in the PC V needs updating, before you panic. Most guys do not do this.
