had one of those little tar covered stones stuck in the rear pulley. could feel a vibration and could not work it out. under load seemed ok, light cruise there it was down hill clutch there it was. Walked into the shed to start looking for it and just noticed a small white thread hanging out from the belt.
    Fucking council pricks.

Any way glad you found it mate nothing worse than a problem you can't work out

Good one to stick in the memory banks Hilly !
Funny how we tend to think of the worst possible scenario, and miss the simple things.
It sucks that with all the fuel tax, fines etc' we are paying, we still have crap spray seal roads, and cold tar patches.

Another place for little bits of blue metal to get caught and cause bad noises and hard / impossible gear shifting is down between the gear selector shaft lever and the gear box housing.

They're usually triangular shaped and the right sized one fits in like a wedge just perfectly.

thanks for the heads up... couple other things that will show up that problem....

    - if you have True Track and any of the bolts come loose such as the spacer bolt on the front then it will vibrate like fuck as it will lock the engine to the frame...

    - the other is if any of the rivets on the engine mount pop... not as a sever vibration but still noticable
