oxygen sensors

Hi, has any body heard of relocating the oxygen sensors on your exhaust headers, I have 2012 super glide  I am going to fit a set of ThunderHeader 2-1 system to.

Local Harley Mechanic has advised me that the sensors need to be in the same position as the original  headers which is about 280mm from the exhaust port or they will melt.

These pipes have the oxy port about 120mm from the exhaust ports, I have no problem tig welding the existing and re welding down stream, just means rechroming.

    Any comments welcome.

    Cheers

If you're fitting a different set of pipes you'll most likely have to re-tune anyways.

Hilly's right, the Local Harley Mechanic has got it wrong.

Has Thunderheader got any info about re-tuning after fitting their pipes ?

Think I'd be inclined to fit them up the way they are and adjust if necessary.

Geeze Lizard, why would you go to the effort of choosing what you think is a nice / good system designed by professionals and then assume that they got it wrong before you at least try it?

There doesn't appear to be any issues reported on their comments and feedback site regarding O2 sensor location or tuning / performance problems by people that have fitted them.

Be a bit of a bummer if you relocate the O2 sensors, re-chrome, and then find out it was the wrong move,,, then have to put them back to where the designer originally placed them for optimum performance with their product.

If you think that ThunderHeader got it wrong you might be better off looking at a system that you think got it right. Save you a lot of modifications, time and expense.
