Dyna hot start problem

I have a 2007 Dyna FXDC, with Screamin eagle air kit, mufflers and race tuner (bike has custom map) and only 12,000 kays. When the bike is hot it is hard to start usually takes 3 to 4 cranks to get going. It is like there is no fuel or no spark as the engine turns over. There is no problem when bike is cold it will start first go. Once going bike runs and rides perfect. I don't want to take to local dealer as have had a bad experience with them and they charge like a wounded bull.  Anyone suffered the same problems or able to offer a solution. Thks

Note sure that's the problem Hilly. I've been having what may seem a similar problem on my 2007 Street Bob for the last 4-5 years, maybe more cannot remember. I've had the problem with standard ECM, PCIII and TTS with all professionally tuned. Even with the PCIII I tried varying the start parameters.

I've been told that it's a problem with starter clutch, but I'm not sure... going to get T1 to check. All I know is that it sounds awefull when it happens, hard to describe. How I get around the problem is hit the start button immediatly after I turn the ignition switch (I've moved ignition to tank console) and I rarely have a problem.

Just wonder if when the starter gets hot it might be drawing excess current, hence driving slow, and robbing ignition of full current / voltage ?

Check starter current flow cold, and then hot will tell if that is an issue,,, if so, fix is to rebuild starter or replace it.

This happens to a lot of starters on different applications. Just sayin.

Thanks for the advice. I initially had the hot start problem prior to having the bike tuned. My tuner played with cranking table and it all but got rid of hot start problem. It has just started to have the hot start problem again. I will also check current on starter motor.

I replaced the positive from the batter when I replaced the battery.... not checked the negative lead yet

might just have to give starter and electrics a good going over
