    Hey gents,

I'm in the process of finding a suitable 86-90 model Softail and thought I would ask the experts what the go is with regards to problems.  I'm pretty familiar with my 2010 Iron and plan on keeping her, but am going to buy a new bike as a project.  Been doing some research and everything I can find indicates that the 1340 Evo engines are probably one of the better ones HD ever produced?  Don't care too much about whether its an import or not, in fact, I don't car at all.  The plan is the rebuild the bike from the frame up and create the bike that I want.

So to assist me buy a bike, is there anything I should be on the look out for? Reasonable prices etc would be great.  I have a few ideas already but seems people have varying opinions on what they 20+ bikes are worth and so forth.

Anyone whose owned an older model and or still owns one, really appreciate ANY input.

    Cheers

    Waz

Hi Dave and Chopa ... great to see experienced guys offering out the advice ... just a query , did all the Evo`s use Timken bearings and for some reason there is some past advice from somewhere floating around in my noggin that makes me think the 96 to 99 models were the pick of the crop .

Is there any substance to this thought or is it more of a situation that Harley had sorted out most of the niggling problems by then ... I own a 2008 T.C. but am dead keen to build up a Bobber using the Evo Softail from that era as the donor bike and if the 93 and up had the case`s issue`s sorted and / or other issue`s sorted then that gives me a few more years worth of models to check out .

Missed out by 1 day on that 97 Softail that a member here had for sale for 10 Grand recently ... it seemed to be in great nick ... I think he got 11,500 just by putting on the footpath out side his work place ... those deals don`t come along every day that`s for sure .

Anyhow thanks for reading and good luck 883 Convert on your new venture ... Tim .

Thanks Dave ... The Timken Bearings reference was aimed more at the engine side of things but you have answered that for me ... Thanks again ... Tim .
