Guys,
if we upgrade our engines,do we have to inform the RTA and are there any implications if you don't inform the RTA or your green slip insurance provider? The dealer says don't bother. Anyone had any issues? Cheers.
No i would not mention it. They are hardly likely to tear your motor down to measure the pistons in the unlikely event of a prang are they?
They only need to remove spark plugs to check the capacity. they do it at race track all the time.
I can't see the hardship in telling the insurance company etc. For the sake of a few extra bucks.............hell If I'm seriously injured etc and they wont pay out because my bike engine was a modification I didn't tell them....... Quick story about insurance companies. My Dad's mate (yeah I know ha ha) he bought a brand new Ford, cost him about twenty thousand pounds so a decent model. He'd only had it a few days when he got a window smashed and they ripped out his stereo and off the scumbags ran. He thought rather than go through a lot of pain he bought a cheap stereo and got the window fixed for cash..............all good. A week passes, this time the car is stolen! Joyriders go to town and it's rolled into a field, unfortunately the thieves live and do a runner. Insurance pick up the car in the field and look over it. They contact the owner and say we notice you don't have a standard Ford stereo but it's a brand new car. Mate said yeah car got broken into, the excess would have been more than me getting it fixed myself........ Outcome, insurance company refused to pay out because he hadn't declared to them his car had been broken into...............than cost him twenty thousand pounds. HIs car written off and no pay out!!!!
