Tetchy front brake leaver.

Hey guys. Can anyone give us some advice on my front break. It has a bit of (bugger all) play on the lever. When I use the brakes the lever doesn't come all the way off and keeps my tail lights on until I actually push it back against the housing. Not so sweet. Has anyone got any ideas to tighten it up? Cheers, Quirky.

Rocky it means it's playing up, not doing what it should be doing, being a pain in the arse, or in short not springing back far enough to cancel the brake light.

How old is it and how many ks has it done. An overhaul could be on the cards. Or at least one of these.
Master cylinder rebuild, or a new spring at least.
Also it could mean a sticky slave cylinder on the fork leg. Full of crap and road debris built up over time and the seal is hard and not letting the piston back off properly when letting the lever go.
Try replacing the fluid and bleeding the system at least as it may be old fluid, and then see how it feels.
You will definitely find the problem if you strip both master and slave cylinder, and check out the parts. It's a relatively easy job. hope this helps

It happens when the brake fluid isnt changed often enough, you will get sludge inside the master (which is a mix of brakefluid and water-moisture). your 3 options are :
    1 : new master cylinder
2: rebuild kit for the master cylinder and hope that there isnt any "pitting" on the cylinder bore
3: strip the master cylinder, clean all parts, reassemble and flush the system with new dot 4.

That's too new for that to be happening. Dealers should warrant that.

It's an import FLHuTChU so I'm gonna have to sort it out myself. I'll pull it apart like you said and see what I can see.
