i was riding in an 80km/h zone and glanced at the speedo, it was reading about 150km/h! i nearly shit myself. i automatically slowed down a bit and other cars were overtaking me. when i caught up with the cars the speedo was reading 160 ks. i dont think the odometer was reading any faster, after about 2 km i pulled over and switched it off for a minute. when i started it and took off the speedo was working normally again. its a 2002 fatboy fuel injected. has anybody heard of this happening and any suggestions what caused it?

Never heard of this happening mate so I'm of no help (as per usual!)

Check the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). It might be on the way out. it is located in the Transmission case. The connector is located in the Electrical Panel under the rear wheel. 5 min job to replace.

Or ignore it unless it happens again.

 I've actually had the speedo needle drop to zero whilst doing 40-50 Kph, pulled over & switched off bike then restarted it. No problems since.
