leave the plug in it, tip it up side down, get a sheet of perspex with a small hole in it. put vaseline on the flat surface of the head. This will seal the perspex to the head. Small hole to be the highest point. Now you have a sealed chamber which you can fill with liquid to measure the volume. Use a syringe say 25cc gives reasonable distinction between the marks to read the amount.
After you cc it clean it up and do it again that will show how much carbon build up there is.
You ca do a similar thing with the piston by submerging it and measuring displacement but very difficult with flat top pistons, I am assuming you have flat tops not domed.

this is just an outthere thought but didn,t the MoCo change from the 96ci to the 103 ci in 2011 and if they did happen to screw up by mixing parts up would that give me the 220 cranking compression?

And I doubt they screwed up the parts. More likely the previous owner had some head work done. Especially the large difference between stock and what you are getting for CCP. I gather you still can't get in touch with the previous owner? If the bike is in the shop then they should be able to sort it out for you..

when you get the bike to fred make sure he has your cam timing information.
He will volume the engine first I think to see if anything is odd.
The more I think about this the more it seems to be cam timing. either a tooth or two out or the cams are not indexed correctly to the gears. If he has all the info he will be able to set up a degree wheel and check it. Pretty sure he installs them that way rather than dot to dot any how.

He`s a busy little beaver old Fred down there at ProCycle isn`t he ... I`ve been waiting a few weeks { New Paint set coming } to book my Softail in for some Cams and other assorted little jobs hoping he will quieten down a little , no such luck , Lol .
Let us know the out come sic-puppy ... will be interesting to hear what the solution is ... I`ve found Fred and Jamie down there to be on the up and up and extremely easy to talk to so hopefully that will work for you as well .
