forgot to mention I was thinking of the SE 254's originally for my rideing style.pherhaps someone might like to add a comment on the 254's for a 96B. I seldom get over 4.000 rpm unless I get a urge.which lets face it's only a short squirt as you watch the speedo go to places Mr Plod does'nt like..

    cheers Jimmy

My Andrews 57's arrived from M&M this week. I've E Mailed Fuel Moto to send me a tune that will work; surprisingly, they have not had too much experience with them....

Very surprised the 37 made that much torque, did the +4 stay in ?
    Interested to see the sheet.

Hilly is your mate with the fatboy low still running the Andrews 37+4 (se204) with his 106 top end?
I'm still looking at cams for a 106 build. I know the se204 cams are older than other cams available but they seem to have very good midrange and known for a very nice sound, which are two traits I'm keen on. I thought the 10.1 cr of the 106 might have been a bit high for this cam but obviously not?

Thanks hilly. That's good to know. The 204s were my pick for what is now a stage 1 96. But even for that application, the 204 is said to be difficult to tune and prone to engine detonation. Blokes in the USA have gone as far to say to avoid this cam in a climate that sees hot weather. A shame as it's said to be a good overall performer and one of the nicest sounding. Funny how Harley don't publicise the compression ranges suitable for their screamin eagle cams.

Daggs, I'm still doing homework on cam choice. I started looking at the s&s 583, then to your 585 and between those two back and forth. Also looking at the Andrews 54 and 57 among others. I just need to pick one and be happy!

It sounds silly but aside from a good midrange performer, I'm really after that lumpy hotrod sounding cam too. What are some of the better sounding cams available for midrange performance for a 106 at 10.1 cr with no headwork.

Daggs, do you have a dyno chart for your bike?
If not I'm keen to know when the torque hits it peak plateau, knowing the hp will rise to redline.
One of my concerns with the s&s 585 is that with its lift and no headwork it really is at the absolute limit of the oem valve springs. My local shop and also hd in their own literature reckon you need upgraded springs at that lift. My shop doesn't have experience with the s&s cams and I don't always believe everything I read from hd so I'm keen to hear your first hand feedback.

The s&s cams are appealing with the ezy start and buying effectively in an s&s package with the s&s big bore kit.

Can anyone also chime in with any starting issues I could encounter if using an Andrews 54, 57 or similar at 10.1 cr without any decomp release?

    Thanks

Fatbat, why don't you start a new thread on what you want to build.
    The 54's in a 106 at 10:1 would be around 190psi cranking.
I would prefer to use comp release at that pressure, but you would possibly get away with it.

Fatbat my iPad won't let me attach an image in a PM which is how I was trying to send you my dyno charts but anyway torque is at 100 by 2200rpm and peaks at 114 ft/lbs at 4000. Stock heads and TB at this stage, I ride it pretty hard and no dramas yet with about 6k with the 106 and cams fitted.

Thought I saw someone say that HD did not have chart recomending compression ratio for certain camsharfts. In the following catalog there is a chart which does that and also recomended heads. Also lots of other tastie stuff.   www.harley-davidson.com/.../pdf/2014-screamin-eagle-catalog.pdf
