I bought my Wideglide off the fella that bought it new in the states, bought it back to Oz with him and had it complied...It was complied with the side mounted plate so that doesn't say too much about the firm that complied it....

There's one importer in Queensland who sells his bikes with V & H big radius etc. Stuffed if I know how they get road worthy certificates for them...

I have the Harley side mount the same as the American models  on my Iron, in NSW. It is not legal, but is very close to being so. It is well above the axle line and viewable from 45 degree angle on the left, and almost the same from the right. I like the look of it, but know I m taking a chance. So far, so good. TC

The newer HD side mpunt kit brings it plate back further making it fit into ADR's but trying to educate a cop is another story all togeather, not worth the heat as if they stop you and you proceed to correct them they'll only find another reason to book you.

Well on that note, the side mount plate kinda saved me in a way. The cop was so busy worrying about the side mount number plate and the details concerning how illegal it is, that he forgot to check my licence ( I was on my P's and riding my Harley.....) so instead of 3 points and $244 it could have also been another 3 points and $322..

I was swatting up on ADR's etc for an upcoming licence application.

In WA, The Road Traffic Act (1974) that pre-dates & oversees the ADR's says:
9.92.6 - If only 1 brake light is fitted to a vehicle, It must be fitted in the centre or to the right of the centre of the vehicles rear.

Do you guys have your plates (and light) mounted on the left like most US bikes? Or the right.
Right kinda makes sense since we are on the other side of the road an all. Pitty the exhaust gets in the way there mostly

    Anyway,
Mine will be centre mounted to reduce the fender length - different rule bend all together..

I don't think I would have, as I was with a group of 6 and the cop was on a bike and he cut off 4 others to get to me...so....

They can't be illegal everywhere in Australia as I bought my bike in Brisbane with a side mounted license plate, and they had to get it complianced before I bought it. So that can't be true.

I bought my bike not more than 2-3 months ago from Daytona Powersports, who are a Harley Dealer & Importer and the bike has a side mounted license plate with their branding on it.

I hear lots of people say this is illegal and that is illegal yet half the stuff honestly can't be. They can slap whatever they like on the bike but when it goes over the pits the guys inspecting the bike will know, the cops won't, if it's legal it's fine.

all a cop needs to do is think its illegal and he can give you a ticket/yellow sticker then its upto you to prove its not to whoever is doing the RWC/or judge if you goto court! Not worth the hassle (in vic anyway)

It the same as pipes. Practically EVERY set of after market pipes will fail the test. Including V&H and SE But its up to u if u fit them. U may be lucky. But the 45° visibility is the one they will get u on.
