I have a Harley 48 and want to paint the tank black and badge it with a traditional metal 'bar & shield' design badge. I have been to the HD dealer and he said as the tank is a peanut style, it is very difficult to badge them at all.
Has anyone done a metal tank emblem on the 48 or Iron, open to suggestions but an example of the badge is attached.
hi mate i think you can buy that emblem as astick on but they not cheap,

These are on the to-do list for my bike, have seen them cheaper around $45 that was a while ago though..
Here they are on a Forty Eight,

Pretty sure this is the listing I had previously seen, slightly larger emblems. www.ebay.com.au/itm/Harley-Davidson-OEM-Gas-Tank-Emblems-Left-and-Right-/350820460689

yeah slap i was going todo the same but with the harley writing and skulls in the background
that 48 in the pic looks tough as. makes me tempted to put the small tank back on and get some of those badges too
Interesting info. All the reads lead back to me thinking those bar and shield are curved. I will try and contact the guy on youtube to see what he got. Quite like the look of these as well.

if they are slightly curved you can use http://www.permatex.com/products/our-brands/the-right-stuff to stick them on, this stuff works well for badges and will allow removal later on if required. but if you never want them to come off use sikaflex. T1
edit - found your flat ones http://www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-Davidson-100-OEM-Metal-Bar-Sheild-Emblems-one-Silver-color-/350850179348?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item51b04ce114&vxp=mtr
reading the discription it seems the original ones are alloy, so they may come from the factory flat, but if they are a little curved they will eaisly bend onto a flat serface. I can confirm that Nightrain tank badges are like this.
