I keep hearing good things about these mufflers and how much of a good all rounder they are when working with the factory headers. And if hilly is adding to those sentiments with his experience and know how after stuffing arou d with all sorts of combinations, that says even more about them.
Hilly I am curious how much noise this combination makes at startup, idle and cruising speeds. I know noise is a subjective thing without measuring it but would they wake up neighbours at startup at 6am in the morning and/or attract the wrong kind of attention?

Same as Hilly. I put mine on after a short time with standards after i got an pa letter for my s&s slash cuts. They are loud but a different loud to the slash cuts. I short change in the mornings and when I go on night shift.. i prefer the tapered look to.

Hi all...My Dyno tuner talked me into the S&S slipons as well..I wouldn't call them quiet though. But everyone says my bike sounds good.

I had a set for my Deluxe, they are great if you want pipes that sound tough but don't scare crap out of your street. Highly recommended! The plus is they look like originals and dont attract the attention of the fun police.

Decided to go for a set after reading this thread - replaced stock mufflers. Very happy, great sound. Not sure I've added that much power, maybe a bit more, need to get it dyno'd.

Wasn't happy with Harley however, when I was putting the mufflers on I found the seal clamp of the lower muffler loose and one bracket bolt missing on the top muffler, with another loose (there's only 4 ffs!!).

I hadn't felt or noticed mine were loose, but can't have been too long before they came off - bike has only done 1200k's.

The S+S slip-on mufflers should indeed work, especially if the headers are stock (cross-over adds a lot to overall flow). Throw in a high-flow air filter and re-tune to suit (richer jetting if it's a carby model, re-program for injected - latter should be off-the-shelf, matching as same Screamin' Eagle mods). This set-up should add 8-10 ps across most of the rev range.

Keep checking those clamps. They may well work loose. You are supposed to go thru a hot cold hot cycle then check them. If in doubt, buy new clamps. Genuine HD ones are cheap as and it makes sure the new pipe stay secure.

I love mine, and my nieghbours haven't growled at me yet.

Cheers, will keep my eyes on them.

I have a powervision, have loaded a stock tune for air cleaner and pipes, but will get a dyno tune from Thundertech here in Perth, they have a great rep.  The sans mufflers look was pretty good, little loud though.

I ordered some S&S slash cut slip ons on Thursday. I heard some good things about Cobra slip ons aswell. I have a new S&S carb, so thought the matching slip ons would be the go. I reckon they look great too. The tapered have a great wrap on them, I just couldn't get passed the factory look.

    Hi Guys,

I have a fat bob and concidering putting the S&S tappered turbo slips on it. I'm told the fatbob headers are shit. Which is what I have currently with S&S slash cuts. I have 2 questions.

    1. Will the 2into2 standard dyna headers fit the fat bob.

    2. Are the Tapered Turbos any different to the slash cut other than looks.

    Cheers.

Cheers Hilly. Do you know if I can change to the 2 into2 headers. Will they bolt on.

From what I understand the 'tapered" exhaust end is important for the returning wave front that helps with exhaust scavenging

The stock Fatbob exhaust headers can be greatly improved by removing the catalytic converter , which like the dressers is in the merged part of the headers

Loads of "how to" videos on youtube. All of my riding mates here in Perth who have Baggers now ( most of them FFsake !) have had their stock headers decatted.

Purely labour costs , nothing else to buy, they fit right back on with no bracketing troubles and look bone stock.

To add , Khrome Werks make a 3 1/2 inch Horsepower plus tapered muffler , I've used them on Softy's and Dynas , now they look 100% stock and have no embossed "S&S" to catch the roadside coppers attention. They are also lighter than the S&S in weight and work very well with stock headers

Back in late 2007 my 2008 Anniversary Softail custom with stage 1 , K&N air and Khromewerks tapered mufflers EASILY pulled away from a mate's 2007 Fatboy with Arlen Ness big Sucker / V&H big Radius curved / Power commander and 3 hours of "dyno time" ( 2+ grand he'd spent !!)

I've got a set on my '13 Streetbob and my old man has a set on his heritage softball. Love em. Great sound! Looking at upgrading to SE air cleaner kit and super tuner to stop the valve closing one of the pipes at low revs

I bought the s&s tapered turbo mufflers for my evo softail but can't get them to fit. The slash cut mufflers I removed have a bracket welded on which hangs about an inch under each muffler. The s&s ones don't. Any input?
