I'm going to purchase a new Fat Bob next month in Brisbane.

How much will dealers move on list price ?

I live 1 km away from Morgan and Wacker in Newstead can anyone recommend these guys. I would consider gasoline alley if I was getting a better deal and better after sales service

    Thanks

Mate if you can't get either of them to move on price try the next best thing see what they are will to throw in to seal the deal eg; accessories for your bike, servicing costs, etc, etc, in the end it's your money and you want best value for it.

have a chat to the guys in general & get a feel for how you get treated as you will likely have to return & keep dealing with them.

one of the companies you mention once rudely told me to get on the internet when I asked about a brochure. Allegedly this may have changed with the other company opening its doors & introducing some competition.

needless to say that I have never spent a single buck at the first joint...

shop around and see what you can get regarding price, Harley's are way overpriced for the bike they are selling, they really dont get much better as the years roll on, eg: brakes, suspension.

But there will probably be a Harley price rise on the horizon now the Aussie dollar is going down

Or wait to see how the new Indain bikes are priced

My bet is you could use their new bike prices as leverage but they'll probably tell him to fuck off and buy a victory if he went in there talking their product down and the oppositions product up too much ,,,, besides "some" dealers usually dropping 1k off the new bike price , the accessories route would be the only viable option in regards to how much more you could squeeze them for clinching a quick sale , by memory first service is free anyway ?
Maybe try to get them to pay for an extended warrantee ?
I know someone who got the 1k off , a bat wing fairing bra , a top box 'rack and a dealer T-shirt when purchasing an Ultra Classic ?
I got 1k off my FLSTC Heritage Classic when ordering it new , then a good trade price through the same dealer when trading it for my FLHRC Roadie Classic , plus a pillion backrest and 4 point docking kit , but I had to pay for the rack as they stood firm after blowing a previous trade-in appraisal from another dealer which i inflated by $500 , out of the water by a further $500 , besides that they first let me bust open the box and unwrap her , which was akin to love at first sight , the rest was a bonus !
    Cheers

let them both know you are serious and are shopping between them.
MW will give you 10% off parts and accessories. GA gives you 10% of purchases each month as a credit voucher.
They will normally through in around$600 - $800 of accessories but will not adjust the advertised price.
Ask what comes with it like raodside assist extended warrantee.
Maybe before the end of June will help.
Dont forget MW at the gold coast, It's only a 1 hr ride away.

I went with M & W about a month ago for a new Iron. No movement on RRP, however did a great deal on exhaust, intake, tune and forward controls. They also through in a bunch of other stuff, e.g. shirt, backpack, cleaning stuff etc. I'm sure you could get more if you pushed.

They were about $1k cheaper than the price the others quoted for the above mods.

I was impressed with their customer service also - very easy and friendly, not pushy.

    Thanks for the advice guys.
Spoke to both dealers today both say they can't move on price but both are offering discounts on parts, accessories or merchandise. So I just have to work out what I want with the bike and work from there.

That is the good thing with Jap bikes , you can normally bust them down between 5-10k on retain including on road costs without too much trouble depending on the model , + you get a shit load of extra's and riding gear thrown in , but the consequence comes when its time to sell your Jap bike, the dealers don't want them back because they can't sell the ones still have. i.e I bought a brand new Kwaka in 2010 , retail was $21,990 walked out the door including on road for $16,500 with extra's. The cunts dropped the price of the same bike a month later down to 15k. I sold it 12 months later for 9.5k which took 3 months or so . The Jap dealers offered me 7-8k to buy it back and some didn't even want it. Ive seen some left over 2010 models being advertised for 12k out the door . For that reason i'm quite happy HD don't discount the shit out of there bikes.

Thats the common cry but id like to see some facts on what dealers really get bikes for, considering the price and dollar compared to the US.

Harley Davidson USA will make approx 700 million profit this year ,nearly 3/4 of a billion , that is full cream after expenses, not bad hey.

Now as for making up to 4k on a used bike i would like to know what leads you to that belief. Would you trade your bike for 4k less than what they sell for privately or in the same dealership? Would you pay 4k more than what the shop down the road is selling a similar bike for, i dont think so.

I said between 2-4k. You'd be surprised how much people will take for trades come trade in time. By default i meet the previous owner of my HD , we got talking and it so happens that he traded in for 15k , the bike was retailed for 19k and sat there for 3 months with no bites , and i came along and bought it for 17.5k, and i only got that price because i spent 3 hours negotiating the price and rego was due and i had no trade, easy sale for them and they made a nice $2500 grand profit which is fine, that is business. Profits are good and make the economy what it is without profits the country is fucked. I could give you plenty of other examples from mates, personal experiences , ect ,blah , blah but i can't be fucked typing anymore. Btw I just try and reduce the amount of profits dealers make because i'm a miserable cunt so refuse to buy new nowadays, lol.

....As a former dealer.... Let you into a big secret, dont tell anyone, there is very little money in new vehicle sales, cars and bikes....

.....well paying floorplan on that bike for so long has chewed ALL of my profit anyway and if you added the interest costs on top of the original purchase price i am in for a big smack.

That is absolute bullshit mate .As you are a former dealer you would know that it can be lucrative to own a yard, but if your running your business on floor plan finance scheme and on top of that financing your stock it's only a matter of time before your fucked especially if your selling stock below cost and the economy is slow. Franchise dealerships that are positively geared using owner equity for stock do pretty well and make good profits, plus having a good franchise helps. You only have to look at franchise dealerships these days and see how lavish they have become i.e massive glass fronted shops on prime locations with cafe' in them to realise they must be making decent money otherwise they's all stick there money in the bank and get 5% interest. Look at Frasers motorcycles in Sydney for example it's spectacular in appearance and location compared with what it like when it was at Homebush a few years ago.

I rest my case, you are obviously much smarter than me. Good luck with your new dealership, seems so easy the way you put it.

No need to be a smart arse . I was a licenced motor dealer about 15 years ago Pauly , wholesaler to other yards ect. I ended up building my own car yard as i wanted more of the profits but it cost me everything i had to build it and then some , when it was all done i had no money left for stock or wages . I wasn't prepared to borrow for stock or get floor plan finance as the economy started to turn so i ended up selling it and letting the licence go and got a 9-5 job . It's fucken hard to make it in that industry and i failed at it , but if you survived you could do all right.

I would have thought that profit was entirely the dealers / manufactures business. It is the price you are willing to pay that is your business. It don't matter if there is $500 or $5ooo in it for the dealer, if you don't like the price then don't buy the bike.
You think $700mil is a big profit, you best take a look at what your bank is making.

    Now back on topic
OP how is the deal progressing?

They used to include all the expenses right from shipping the vehicle to the showroom charges. If you'd used Fat Bob, then what 'll be your next ride on?
