very interesting about making it steer quicker, I really thought it would have slowed the steering and made it harder to tip into corners, suppose I will soon find out.

It was the thinner wheel for me that made it roll over quicker.

    Thanks guys.

Interested to see a 3.5 front on shot under a deluxe/road king guard if anyone has one?...

well it does make the bike turn in quicker especially at slow speeds. The wheel turns into the corner pretty much by itself, took a bit to get used to but like it now. The next thing I am thinking of is the 3 degree caps to give her a little bit of rake and they will also drop the front end down a bit as well.

    Nice one mate!

Stick a set of Hawg Halters 4 Degree raked trees! I love them and it handles nice!

    Hi Steve,

Do they do the same thing? I liked the look of my trees too. No more bolts through the top. :D

Had a set of raked fork cups (Vulcan) on my Dyna. One thing to note is they are exposed and they also lower the bottom tree almost to the point the bottom tree acts like a fork brace.

Mate of mine just installed a set of the 3 degree Vulcan fork cups / cones on a 2006 Dyna Super Glide ... he is rapt , left stock fork tubes in , lowered the bike about a inch and a half which he wanted as he is rather short ... he says he feels next to no difference when it comes to handling ... you don`t really notice the rake as much as you would if you were to put in extended forks but like I said he wanted it a little closer to the ground .

Initially there was some concern as to how much the triple tress had to be spread apart as the cones sit about a inch above the top of the head stem and also the same amount below the bottom of the head stem which of course then needs the triple trees to be further apart than usual ... but our fears of the trees bottoming out seem to be laid to rest after going on a few rides and so far and no problems .

Have another mate ... 1997 Wide Glide ... who went the more conventional path and put on a set of Blind 3 degrees Raked triple trees and 2 inch extended tubes and they have been nothing but trouble ... they look great but a bloody nightmare to get right ... D.N.A. brand ... still have a vibration issue at lower speeds that just wasn`t there before ... I know they are at the lower end of the market price wise but fair dinkum these things shouldn't be that hard to set up .

The stupid internal steering lock is one problem ... none of the spacers matched up in either the axle or head stem ... there is absolutely no way to lock the main head stem into place as it screws up from under the bottom triple tree through the goose neck and into the top tree , but being what they call a Blind tree there is no big nut at the top to secure it from vibrating loose and just dropping out , which would be a bit of a shock when cruising down the road .

Solved the main head stem bolt issue by having a small lock wire attached to the head stem bolt which is then secured to the back of the bottom tree ... like most race bike and cars do to secure things ... had to make up different spacers for both axle and head stem that just weren't on the installation instructions ... when contacting the seller he told us that you have to be prepared to modify things a little when buying after market stuff sometimes .

That`s fine to a degree ... but when you don`t get told that before buying things it`s a bit of a piss off ... we have now been informed the vibration issue at low speeds is most likely due to the front rubber engine mount , supposedly a sort of common problem with the rubber mounted Dyna`s ... we have researched this issue and there does seem to be some possibility that this is the problem which we haven`t had time to sort out as yet , if it is the problem of course ... the question is though why wasn`t the vibration there before with the stock front end .

Sorry to ramble on guys just wanted to put my 2 cents in ... if you are going the raked look then go the Vulcan Raked Cups / Cones or spend some decent money on good quality Raked Triple Trees that at least have a safe locking system for the main Head Stem Bolt ... safe riding fellas ... Tim .

    TJU - I hear ya!

I did some serious research before I went the HHI. Both fork tubes are screw into the top tree (blind) and then locking clamps prevent them from moving. There is no way they can spin, which means there is no way they can undo.

Further to that... once you screw the main neck bolt in, it's also locked into place with a locking screw, so it also can't come loose.

I love my HHI trees. They look good, and I have no real issues in handing. My slight wobble at 50 is a product of adding a 19 inch wheel to an already raked bike. :D

Mongrel I reckon the main moral to my ramble is do your research like you did ... The HHI `s are a cool looking piece of equipment ... the problem with my 2 mates is both while not new to bikes by any stretch of the imagination , bot are relatively new to the Harley scene .

Now I have 1 who is smiling every time I see him and the other not so much , Lol ... have to say though he still loves his bike just feels he has been dealt a bit of a bad hand with the D.N.A. front end fiasco .

    Tim .

    Hi Tim,

Yep. Each to their own and go with what makes you happy. :) That's whats great - there are many options to change our rides. :)

thanks for the heads up TJU, I suppose its like most things you get what you pay for. I know the caps are relatively cheap but they are very basic as well, on the other hand the trees are more complex and I think Mongrel did the right thing choosing the HHI trees. I think I will give the caps a run and see if I am happy with them if not I will save up and go the HHI trees, thanks for your input fellas.

ps TJU does your mate have any before and after shots.

pps did he use the ones with or without the fork stop lug.
