Try Famous motorbike insurance, always cheaper for me.

"Cheapest" isn't the best attribute of an insurer. Otherwise I'm willing to insure your bike for $80 a year (payouts of up to $20 with a $30,000 excess).

QBE are the best for me too.  I pay $450 or so for a 2011 (MY) FatBob in Brisbane.

I guess it will depend on what you have and your age.

Mate. You have to ring em. Have the 2005 Heritage with Swann at $480.00 a year and the wifes 2008 Boulevarde with insure my ride for about $240.00. Swann wants $800.00 for the Suzi and Insure my ride want $1500.00 for the Harley with all the same details

After Famous fucked me over, Shannons matched the previous price i had from Famous, been with them ever since. Try them

Shannon's have been too expensive for me in the past with any quotes i've had , way over the top compared with other prices i've got. I personally don't use Famous i use QBE/AAMI as they do pay by the month and famous want the full premium up front. Mate of mine had three claims recently with Famous (at fault) all within a short space of time and the claims were dealt with promptly.

Keep in mind all insurance companies have in the fine print absolute discretion as to whether they will honour a claim regardless if your right or wrong. If your not happy with a claim go to the ombudsman or go see your local member.

I got similar specs as you, Barnzy (cept the age thing, tad older...). I had given up on the thought of insurance but tried the online quote from Insure My Ride and I get fully comp on a '94 Springer (their value $15,600.00) and all for $370.00. Surprised me! Bike fully comp now!!

I went with Swann mainly because I heard you have the least trouble with them, my bike cost me around $550 from memory. I think the age thing only comes into it if you are under 30.

    Hey Barnzy,

Another option may be to talk to your local dealer.  They will know who to approach - and they don't all use Swann.  It was Sunshine Coast that put me onto QBE as the better option for me.

    Just a thought.

Use on-line quotes as a guide only, you may be surprised by getting further discounts when you call them up and speak to them in person. Further discounts can apply if you are a member of a bike club and/or have done a motorcycle course, have an alarm or immobilizer fitted etc.
I'm in NSW and over the years i have found shannons and qbe and swann to all be good.
Last quote was from QBE agreed value of $36.600 for $590 p/a but i have done mods and extras since then.
This year i went back to swann and agreed value of $44.000 is $752, @ $400 excess. Slightly more $ than QBE but A better product all round and insure all your mods and extras no hassles.

A lot of these companies seem to roll a dice on what they'll charge you. I left a company and tried another for a year, then when I came back they wanted to charge me $400 more despite the only difference being me a year older with a year more experience. They aren't in business anymore and I can see why.

This year I'm with QBE too.

Yeah Barnzy don't rely on the online quotes , bloody hopeless ... QBE for me as well ... less than $500 for 2008 FSXTC ...cheaper again if you are in certain clubs and what not apparently ... and I don't mean 1% clubs ... Hog or Ulyssisies { sorry about the spelling } ... clubs like that .

Sorry Barnzy missed the posts above where you said you went with Swan ... Man as long as you are happy then that's all that matters ... I noticed someone had said it might be because where you live ... I thought the same myself before joining QBE and I think it definitely happens but as I live in downtown crime central otherwise known as Woodridge I was plesently surprised when my quote came back under the $500 mark .

And I`m not sure how many do it or how legit they are in the long run but one of the reasons I went QBE was that they have agreed value so if I choose to pay a higher premium then I can insure my bike for a few Grand more than market value and seeing as though I have a few extra goodies on the pride and joy I thought that was a good idea .

    Insure MyRide'

$381.00 for wifeys 2011 Yamaha 650.    $325.00 for Jimmy's 2007 FXSTC.   I just checked both papers before posting this. there's a bit of difference there seeing how the Yammy's cover is only for $10,000 and the Softy $24.100. ? anyway it's all a peace of mind. I do use a disc lock on the back wheel as well as I don't trust any bastard.

    cheers Jimmy
