Air cleaners for Sportsters

     Hi all,

I'm looking into replacing my gigantic sardine can of a stock air filter on my xl883n, with something a little smaller, with slightly better knee clearance.

Any advice or reviews of recommended air filters? What do you run on your bike? Happy with it?

    I'm considering:

    -Joker machine 4" air cleaners -     http://jokermachine.com/products/harley-davidson/sportster-parts/rain-sock-for-high-performance-a-c.html

-Performance machine Max HP air cleaner - http://www.performancemachine.com/motorcycle-air-cleaners/MAX-HP.html

plus anything else fairly simple and clean looking with good knee clearance. No heavy breathers. I know people love em, but looking for something a little smaller, like my...... 'uh hem'

I looked at Roland Sands Clarity, and yeah they're nice, but Jesus, they're huge, and so is the price. I saw one in person (not in the marketing vid, in which they look awesome!)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyy3HxevB7Q

But in person in harley heaven in the city store - they're like a rubbish bin with a viewing window - huge. Can't see myself hanging one off the side of my bike for fear of it only riding in cirlces  (ok... i exaggerate)

    Appreciate any ideas.

    Cheers,

    UG

Performance Machine Black Ops intake looks good.

You want knee clearance then what about the RSD Slant intake? Pricey though..

    www.rolandsands.com/products/rsd-slant-carbon-fiber-intake-kit-carbon-ops-

Hammer Performance do ham-can Air Hammer intakes in a forward offset version for better knee clearance 3" or slimmer 2" & you can get the cover customised with your own design. They are affordable too. You'll need an external head breather kit though. I got my Hammer intake powdercoated locally for $50.

    Cheers,

    Slap.

The air cleaners from figuremachine.com are very nice pieces. The one on my 48 has a nice velocity stack inside that picked up the power on the dyno quite nicely.

I just fitted the Arlen Ness big sucker to my 04 1200c and I love it, both the look and the performance are great and a bonus is the knee clearance

Not sure if it would suit what you're going for as it looks like black might be your preference, but I just put a Kurakyn Velociraptor on my 48 and I love it. The induction noise at full throttle is worth any leg room it takes up.

It sticks out about the same as the stocker, but is smaller in diameter so you might get an extra inch of knee room..

Hi to all the sportster fanatics,

I have a 2012 ,1200 sportster custom (LOVE THE BIKE), and i have just fitted screamin eagle sports tuner and Heavy breather and slip-ons, there seems to be a little improvement in performance but not as much as the doller spend would indicate- but thats not my delema; I have noticed after about 200klm that small oil droplets seem to be splatering onto the right hand side cover (oil tank). I have trace back to where the new heavy breather bolts to the engine, where there appears to be a small amount of oil. IS THIS NORMAL, IS THERE A CURE- or do I just put up with it and clean the oil splatter every couple of hundred clicks. All comments appreciated.

By the way,  thanks to all that replied to my earlier delema with my suspension bottoming out: saving up for some heavy duty progressives .

    Regards

         Hotcurrie2
