HI All,
I am looking for an expert advice on how to connect the cables to that the lights on the trailer operates correctly.
Please look at the images attached. This is the cable harness that is connected to the battery. It has 8 cables
- 4 blue with some lines (I needs microsope to see them)
- 3 Black, I assume those are earth
- 1 Red/orange, which I think is the positive cable.
For some reason, those 8 cables are converted to only 6 cables on this connector that connects to the rear lights!! Seeing, I see 2 extra black wires for earth on the batter connector, can someone throw some light as to why you need to extra black on the main connector?
The hitch/towbar manufacturer gave me a cable to connect from the battery/rear light harness to this connector.
Which actually matches the connector that came with the trailer,
The confusion is here:
1) Which cable should go where?
2) Should I patch the cable from the connector thats connected to the battery or from the connector thats connected to the rear lights?
3) If connecting the cable to the batter cable is the right way to do it, which cable from the trailer should connect to which cable on the motorcycle?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
Gurdeep.
Hey Gurdeep, The trailer wiring plug is as follows: 1-Yellow. Left turn 2-Black. Auxiliaries (power to say 2nd battery in trailer) 3-White. EARTH 4-Green. Right turn 5-Blue. Auxiliaries (Trailer Brakes normally in vehicles) 6-Brown. Tail Lights 7-Red. Stop lights You may not need all the wiring to your trailer. But you will need at least 5 wires to be connected. Left turn Right turn Stop Tail light & Earth. So grab a multimeter & check output of wires from the 6 pin plug as this goes to your tail light. Turn on ya left turn signal & check which wire is flashing (one of the blue wires with a trace) & then connect that to the Yellow wire & so on. Positions 2 & 5 will not be required if towing with a bike. (Unless you have a 2nd battery in the trailer & you want to trickle charge it)
The 3 Black wires most likely disappear down the loom from the battery to either other things &/or solder to each other & become one. To check if it is an Earth on that plug, stick one end of the meter on the battery & stick the other in the black wire at the plug & then check the voltage.
I would strongly advise not to use those shitty "Scotch Loks" as they will cause you grief later on down the track. Become poor conductors & lead to bad connections & false warnings.
Hope this helps mate. Cheers

I went to HH and bought the plug and pins... The hitch can be removed when not required... And no splicing of wires..And it cost $11.00, if you do that though you have to buy both sides (male and female)
That would be good thanks AJ
oyeaussie, what softail do you have.
I still have to get my towbar yet, from Classic in Yadina QLD. already have my Classic Trailer, had it over 12 months now.
