Dealer/$tealer?

     How's this, a bit rich?

Go into dealer to have a look around, get a price on my trade-in, which they don't want as it's not one of their type/brand of bikes.  So they ring around and get a price, which they send me by email.  I go back a couple of weeks later (after trying to sell my bike privately), see something I like, but hesitant to sign on the dotted line.  Staff in full press mode, "what can we do to make you sign today" etc.  Long story short, I end up signing, get bike a few days later, get an invoice a few more days later, I owe them $500 dollars more than the original deal because they got 500 bucks less for the trade-in.

    I think that's a bit rich.

Hey I mentioned that some mates of mine had horror stories in another thread and almost as quickly I read about 2 more, well done Paul for sticking to your guns and winning.

Rnie, That's just wrong mate! If it were me then this Saturday morning (their busiest time) I would be in the shop fronting up to the salesman, if they refuse to honour the trade in price agreed then my voice would get louder and louder so everyone in the shop would hear just what a bunch of tosser they are.

Just remember that news of bad service reaches twice as many ears as does news of good service, you may want to remind the salesman of that when he has a full shop. Don't be intimidated by them, you are their customer and if they want repeat business from you then they have really started off on a bad foot, in fact point this out to them and ask them just what are they going to do to get you to shop there again? maybe give you a better trade in price lol.

If I wasn't busy Saturday I would meet you at whichever dealer it is and back you up, good luck though and let us know what happens.

What they got for the bike after they took possession of it is their problem, what was written on the yellow agreement between you and them stands.

Don't pay the invoice, take it to consumer affairs and I think they'll convince the dealer that they may have made a weeny error,,,,,

    Tell em nothing.

If they "contact" again, tell em to FUCK OFF !

Do your first " free" service yourself so they don't get a hold of your bike again.

They are " cunted " ( technical term ) and so be it...

In 1997 I looked at a new FXSTC Softail Custom in a dealer's showroom here in Perth .

Bike has flat bars. a single seat etc etc in the showroom , with the "extras" added to the retail price of a " normal" bike .

On the day of my pickup , I ask for all the stock parts to go in the boot of my missus' Ford Festiva

" Oh they say . that price was " exchange " , ie full retail PLUS the cost of the parts !!

( They would have sold the new bike take-off parts under the counter for hundreds of dollars or put them on tired showroom used bikes )

I say , well fuck me then , get all my STOCK OEM parts back on the bike and REDUCE the price by the extras cost !!

Within 10 minutes my wife's Festiva has a boot full of stock OEM 1997 Softail parts including a two up seat.

( You don't argue with a handy irate Scotsman mate !)

STAND UP FOR YOURSELF OR BE FUCKED FOR SURE MATE

Ah, they did not actually mention it was free, just picked that up from another poster. It will probably be far from free.

"Free service" is sorry a "figure of speech". Used to be the labour was free and you paid for lubricants etc etc

If you "owe" them any money then they have a "legal lien" over your bike !

Posession is 9/10ths of the law

That means that they can " hold " the bike in lieu of the debt.

I was in the motor trade for a looong time , I know what I'm talking about !

Don't give them workshop possession of your bike again , just in case mate.

It gets tricky there, they still have to fit the pipes and aircleaner I have paid for. But if they insist on payment then and there for the 500 bucks owing, I will be asking them to show me the clause in the contract that says they can vary the trade-in price. Failing that I will tell them I need 30 days from the time the invoice is sent, and then when that has gone by it will be time for the small claims tribunal i think. Will see what happens when I take it in.

Ok, finally found the contract. They actually gave me 500 less for my trade in, but stuck that onto the VCA which initially was 218.80 then got changed to 718.80(valued customer allowance). But when the column got added up, it was added with the 218.80. so that's where the 500 buckaroos are. Perhaps I have been slandering them for nothing, and it is just a simple mistake on their part. I will take the paperwork in, and have a quiet word with them.....

    To paulybronco

"Sorry that is the biggest piece of crap advise i have ever heard !!"

The way this was first portrayed , ( we know the scene has just now changed ) then my advice was 100% technically correct.

Always sounded a wee bit " strange " but you get that from time to time.

If "an invoice" had been raised then there is a debt outstanding ( right or wrong !) and retention of a vehicle is always an option.

Would a dealer have " done it " ? That's the 64,000 dollar question. A CAR dealer and or workshop would do it in a heartbeat

If there was/is a " genuine arithmetic error" on the dealer's part then they could and would use the posession of the vehicle as a resolution tool.

Having spent 15+ years in the car game ," some of the buyers are liars and some of the liars are buyers " quote/unquote. And some of the dealers too FFsake !

No disrespect intended to the original poster by the way

Update. Got an amended invoice in the mail today, with the VCA amended to reflect the 500 taken off the trade in. End result I owe nothing. All Kudos to the dealer who probably realised there was a mistake there. No kudos to me, I probably should have picked up the phone and called them first. But you know how it is when you are on nightshift, nothing to do, and can't stay up long enough in the morning to make phone calls. Again, I take back all the evil thoughts I had of this Dealer, in this instance at least he came through.

" All's well that ends well " to coin a phrase

However " They who shall remain un-named " still tried to keep all my " new bike take-off " parts in 1997

    NOT FOR LONG !

Shit I sold that " new bike take-off " stock FXSTC OEM 2 up seat to a mate just 4 or 5 years ago !

I've had LOADS of new bikes from them since then , never a drama , but "forewarned is forearmed "
