i had a leak from thetop of gearbox cover, i think its called the gear selector on my 2002 fatboy. i drove from newcastle to wollongong before i noticed it so i dropped the oil when i got home and about 1/4 of a stubbie of oil came out of it.maybe less. i checked out the magnet and there was the usual fine stuff on it and one sharp piece of steel roughly 1/4 inch long. my question is how much metal is normal after 4000km oil change? the bike is imported with 10,000km on the clock (6000 when i bought it). i changed the oil again yesterday and there was the usual fines again but nothing that worried me. I think i might have dodged a bullet there or are these gearboxes bullitproof? as i said before only a dribble came out of it when i got it home.
my manual says 20 to 24 fl oz (592-710cc). there was nowhere near that in it when i had the leak and first dropped the oil but the magnet looks ok so hopefully no damage done
