Dyno Difference

Without mentioning Shop names, A mate had his 103 softy with shaved stock heads and Redshift 575 cams dynoed at two different shops

The first shop showed figures of 98 HP and 108 Torque

The Second shop showed figures of 108 HP and 121 Torque

This is about a 10% difference

Just through this out there for discussion and for people that chase dyno numbers forget it so long as ya have a nice tune

No the shop isn't in melbourne but I am positive there is a few freindly dynos there aswell

Both these shop give a very good tune so there is no need to start bad mouthing any of them but the point is don,t get caught up in numbers so long as ya have a good tune

Hey Ando do you think SAE vs STD came into this somewhere? I've read STD correction is less accurate. Getting my 1250 build dyno tuned next week, will be interesting to see the numbers, I think it will be STD correction. A good tune more important though for me than all out HP.

    Cheers,
    Slap.

    Slapster they were both STD

Gents the reason for the post is not to try and work out why there is a difference, but to just say that there are differences.

If you want to compare stuff it needs to be on the same dyno or out on the black stuff

This 103 softy of my mates doesn,t loose anything to any stage IV build it acually puts the wind up them but it never claimed the numbers that are commenly seen from them

Seen a dealer built, rather expensive 103 do 116hp in Adelaide and 85hp back in Mildura 2 weeks ago.
Dynos are tuning tools. Plain n simple. Forget HP. Figures on dynos can be manipulated up or down depending on the operator.
I've seen a very cheap 103 with stock heads, baby cams but with very good gearing maul dealer built mega dollar 113's n even a 127's with 130hp.

I suppose the real lesson i am taking away is to stick with the same Dyno shop (The local Harley dealer in my case) as your motor evolves so that your comparing things on a level playing field - assuming all things being equal with their Dyno machine. To me its all about tracking improvements to my engine package rather than a 'my numbers are bigger than yours" type discussions (although my numbers are awesome!...lol)

I've got a set of thunderheader pipes going onto my Iron 883 soon, was thinking of getting a dyno done too since ive gotta get a remap with the supertuner pro right? Was going to get it all done at the local HH, thoughts?

+ 1 very nice what are you hoping for with the falcon clevland ,Winsor,or bigblock and back on topic if you toke the same bike/car two ten diffrant dynos I bet only about 3 would be close to each other ben down that track before with cars to many verbales' that's way dyno dynamics brought out the shoot out mode on there machines

Just curious to know...Do all the fella's running Dyno's tune bikes with all different types of tuners on them or do they specialise on only one type so if you want to get your bike dyno'd you need to find one that will tune with what you have on your bike...I hope that makes sense...
