2008 Electra Glide Ultra Classic 105th....good, bad and ugly

G'day to you Harley fonts of knowledge..........

About to take the plunge on a 2008 Ultra Classic 105th anniversary.  First Harley after riding a variety of others over many years.

For those who are in the know, what is the good, bad and ugly on this bike.  Most of what I have read on the net seems very positive however better information comes from the users....i.e. you blokes (and gals)

27k on the clock, full service history, just serviced, new tyres, new battery, clean tidy and well looked after.

Anything that I should look out for, specific to that model (rather than the common sense things to look for that are relevant to every motorbike).

    Thanks

    Grizz

Former owner of a 08 Road King.
They are not real good on rear end handling. feels like there is a hinge in the backbone of the frame.
Harley bought out a new frame in 09.

Also check the exhaust pipe brackets off the rear cylinder. Have been known to crack due to vibration.

Check the saddle bag support brackets coming off the rear guard. Will crack also.

,I had a 2006 Ultra, (old frame), put a true track system on .  Bike went great , no major problems .  I now ride a 2009 Electra Glide standard ,(new frame, bigger rear tyre, etc).  The feel through the twistys is just better in my opinion.   That being said, if the bike is in good nic , and the price is right go for it.  If it was me, I'd drive the seller mad with "old frame , new frame' , you might get it for a little less, can only try !!!   Good luck .

Thanks for replies blokes. I listened and acted. The 105 anniversary Electra Glide I previously mentioned just wasn't up to scratch. 27km on the clock and showed it. Seat repairs also required. Didn't buy it.........wasn't even close to buying it.
BUT...I found a private sale 2008 Electra Glide (black) with only 2340 genuine kilometres....yes only 2340 km.....on a five year old bike. It was even stored up off the ground (between a Mercedes and a BMW no less) on a bike lift so that tyres didn't flat spot by sitting there...96ci engine......with about $4000 of added extras including GPS, riders back rest, upgraded LED lighting, trickle charger, Screaming Eagle pipes, small and large screen, bike cover and a bit of extra bling. Took it for a ride and was very impressed. Basically a new bike.

Now I know its only a 2008 and the frame was upgraded in 2009 along with ABS and now they have a 103ci motor...but its just fine by me. I have owned many bikes over many years and am more than impressed with this one so its now mine......MINE...and my first Harley as well. I took nearly 60 years to go over "to the dark side"....or is that I have finally "seen the light".

And another little point that sort of impressed me (a lot) was the price....just a bit over half of what a new one would cost me today. That actually impressed me a real lot.

I will take a nice photo of it next weekend and share my pride and joy on here. This bike has made an old man very happy and wifey, who is not a regular pillion, agreed immediately to become a future passenger in that sumptuous rear arm chair. So its win/win/win/win I guess. What'ya reckon..............did I do the right thing?

and ride it I did...picked it up in Sydney yesterday and rode to the 300 km home. Goes like a dream and everything I expected it to be.  Happy with it.  Played loud rock music all the way for everyone else to enjoy.  Must have impressed a lady passenger in a vehicle stopped beside me at a set of lights....she took a photo of it with her mobile accompanied by thumbs up.  She must have liked Cold Chisel I guess.  Spent all day today going over every nut and bolt.  All good.  A weekend trip away with a couple of mates on their fatties coming up.   So Harley dudes....you have another convert.

    Cheers   Griz
