     G, Day,

This is my first post since my Intro, This is the story of my Trike purchase.

Started 12 months ago trawling the web looking at 2nd hand trikes for sale and then researching makes.

HD came up trumps , then had to find one in good condition that would fit into the budget,  Finally found one in QLD and after several calls to the owner and lots of E-Mails I got my brother in law who resides in brisbane to have a look at it.

I arranged to pick it up, just so happened I didn't look at the calendar, ended up flying to Brisbane and picking the trike up the thursday before Easter.

1st prob, The guy knew sweet nothing about his ride, couldn't even tell me what oils he was running.

2nd Prob The tyres had very little air in them and not 2 pressures the  same.

3rd Prob No Harley dealerships open and WE had to get back to Melbourne to catch the Ferry back to Tassie, Had a couple of days in Brisbane to set the trike up so I was more comfortable riding it but couldn,t get a service or check done apart from what I could do with the limited tools my brother in law had.

4th Prob Got nearly to Glenn innes on the way to the ferry, Stopped  to put on the wet weather gear, DEAD BATTERY, called the Nrma and waited 5 hours for them to arrive and jumpstart us tnd follow us to town where we stayed the night and next morning got a new battery after they checked the charging System.

5th Prob Nearly to tamworth, Again stopped to put in the wet weather gear, Again DEAD BATTERY, called the NRMA again and got jumpstarted and followed the guy to the Harley dealership in Tamworth.

A great bunch of people who checked the charging system and found we had a stuffed stattor, We had to wait till next morning to get one and the shop cancled some of their booked in work to get us back on the road.

We were looking at some long hours riding to get to the Ferry on time but we could make it.

    HA BLOODY HA ,

6th Prob Got past Gunnedah and a shock fell out from  under the trike, again the NRMA got a call and by this call i didn't even have to give them my name just the rego number. an 8 hour wait for the tow truck later and Garry the NRMS agent ( a great guy ) came and refitted the shock by the side of the road. 10 pm at night and 14 foot tall Kangaroos on the road he gave us a ride in the truck with the trike on the back into Gunnedah and next morning we took the trike to his small motors shop and he checked the shock and set  it up for us.

We couldn't make the Ferry in time now so  managed to arrange to get on 3 days later.

Turned the Navman on just outside Melbourne and when it had us heading up flinders street The better Half decided she had had enough and turned it off. Pulled on to the footpath outside the Crown Casino and asked directions to Station pier and the ferry to TAS. Just around the corner and down the street as it turned out.

In short a great adventure that I hope we NEVER have the likes of again. Met a lot of great Helpful people and saw some more places in AUS that we would never have stopped at otherwise.

Made it home to Tassie and now setting the Trike up so we can do some more Touring.

Sounds like one hell of an adventure, glad you finally got it home. All the best with it for the future.

Not a tale of woe at all . An adventure , and you still made it home . Hell of a way to find a faulty stator though !

great to hear you got home ok and that you saw it for what it was, an adventure. If nothing went wrong it is a trip you would have nearly forgotten by now, but instead its something you can look back upon long into the future. What do they say, its not about the destination but the journey getting there.

It'll make you appreciate the trike all the more, particularly when you have everything fixed and set up to your liking. Pity you couldn't get a thorough inspection done on it prior to making the trip up

Great read, great tale to tell, but I have to admit, I'd prefer to read about it than suffer through it!!

I'd love to buy a bike site unseen from the other side of the country then proceed to "get her home"

    Would be a great adventure.
