2008 Front End Bling

Hi guys ... was looking at getting some chrome lower fork legs for my 2008 FXSTC only to be told by the 2 dealers up here in Rainy Brisbane ... { used to be Sunny } ... that they were not available due to some small changes made to the Softails front end after 2006 but were right to get them for 2009 onwards ... well that didn't help me as mine is a 2008 .

I surpose firstly is this true , would the Mother Co. deprive itself from selling some Bling to us punters with 2007 / 2008 Softails and if this was to be the case are my only options to pay for some over priced Arlen Ness goodies ... between 600 and 700 bucks or get my fork legs chromed , which I am not to keen on again due to price and the somewhat dodgy quality of Aussie chrome or the ever at first great looking polished alloy but which usally turns back into the old dull grey alloy look due to not enough elbow grease being applied .

Are there any other reliable front lower forks chromed out there for said models or do I have to just be happy with all the acres of other chrome on my Softail Custom .

    Tim .

Hey Ozy ... haven't done anything yet with the front end ... have been to busy with other aspects of the wallet draining beast { my addiction to spending money on the pride and joy , Lol } , got my Ride Wright classic laced 40 spoked wheels front and rear ... Rear on no drams at all ... front also fits forks no worries but have a rubbing issue with fender brackets but fairly close to having that sorted .

Got my progressive suspension front and rear delivered the other day ... Mono Tube fronts and 422 Remote Adjustable Preload for the rear ... have a line on a pretty decent priced set of 583 easy start S & S Cams ... also pretty happy with a deal I got last week from a fellow forum member ... a complete paint set in near perfect condition with some other goodies ... that makes it possible now for me to take off my pristine original Anniversary paint job and store it away for the future if God forbid I chose to sell it or again God forbid I had a fall and needed another set of tins or even if I ever want to change things around a bit .

There is another thread on here from one of the fine gents on this forum about polishing the alloy which is a way I may go but one thing at a time { yeah I wish the missus says , Lol } .

Thanks for the interest ... did you get down to Gasoline and snap up any of their specials the other week end ... Safe riding mate ... Tim .

what are you doing with your standard 21" smooth front rim as if it fits my bike and we can agree on a price I would be very interested in it, cheers Steve.

Get the forks polished they will look much nicer than chrome, also get some Purple Polish which will keep them looking great with very little effort

Sounds like you have been doing a bit to it mate. You could polish the lowers and see how they come up. Spare tin set is a great way to go.
I did get down the GA and I am pretty sure your bike was parked just outside the entry gate. Didn't find any thing special inside mate.
Have been looking at a few FXST recently for a project but it's a lot of money up front when you don't need/want most of the current bike setup.

Steve L ... not sure just yet what I am doing with standard front wheel ... apart from being inflicted with this awful Hoarding Disease , Lol , I most likely will keep all standard gear in the event I some day want to put it all back to stock for resale purpose`s or God forbid if I need the original gear if I have a mishap ... but rest assured if I do decide to sell stuff and the Missus desperately wants me to , then this forum will be the first place I go to .

Rocky ... yeah definitely will be doing the Purple polish thing when I get a round to it ... just have to stop empting wallet on other projects ... what is it with Harley`s , never spent this type of money on my old Jappa`s , Lol .

Ozy ... yep have been getting stuck into the pride and joy of late ... am real happy with the extra set of tins ... know what you mean about not needing most of a donor bike when getting one for a project ... haven`t even finished the Twin Cam yet ... { close though } ... and already am considering a Evo Bobber project ... went up to that Dirty Love Bike Show at Redcliff a couple of months back and there were some really nice bikes there ... nice and simple and clean , have always had a thing for the Bobbers ... a Springer front end , Rigid Frame , spoke wheels , King Sporty Tank and Evo motor type of thing ... but like you say by the time you buy the donor bike and chop it all up you get stuck with all this stuff you don't really need .

Oh well , will just have to cross that bridge when I get to it ... if I get to it of course , Lol ... cheers guys , Happy and safe riding ... Tim .
