    Hey all,

I puchased a sissy bar and chopped fender rack for my 48 this week. Went to install the stuff and cant get either of the bastards on. The removable sissy bar doesnt seem to fit on the docking hardware and the rack doesnt fit either. Im wondering if im a complete idiot and ive have installed the stuff wrong or if I should go hassle the dealer? the docking hardware looks straight when looking down the bike too.

I spent about 3 hours sturuggling with this stuff last night and cant see what i could do differently to make it fit.

Also cracked the shits at my fiance due to my rage buildup...whoops :)

I ended up booking some time this friday with the dealer to fit the parts. A part of me is hoping they are faulty and im not a chump.

thanks for the offer terror but im really leaning towards faulty parts. I got the mounting hardware on fine but the sissy bar just wont fit. would rather harley to fix/replace it than try and bash it into shape.

i dont really see the saddle bags in my future purchases but i did have a look at the longer hardware when i was there. I figure a big bag strapped to the luggage rack will fit more than saddle bags.

I have a modded bag from those old lady shopping trollies, it slides over my sissy bar and I can fit my swag, sleeping bag, a change of clothes, and doesn't hang off the bike! I have a pic somewhere .....

if its anything like the 883xl c the lockable tabs for the removable rack do not fit.. harleyy davidson in geelong didnt know how to make it work

(edit) they fit on, but the sideplates dont allow room for the key to go into the top part to unlock them..

OK so i took all the stuff to HH and it turns out it wasnt just my incompetence :) . The docking points needed to be modified a little and both the sissy bar and the luggage rack were out of shape. All the stuff is fitted now and the work didnt cost me anything so a big thanks to the service crew @ HH Melb.

Bike is flithy from the rain today but im happy with how it all looks.

Hi Sida, is that the one piece sissy bar? and can you mount the rack only? Both are quick release yeah?

I had the same sort of issue when purchasing a sissy bar and the hardware from HH, was told it would all fit no worries, parts came in. Turns out you can't mount them if you have a side mount rego plate. Ended up finding a nicer sissy bar online anyway that you hard mount without or the docking hardware nonsense.

    @ GT 1200

the sissy bar is quick realease but the rack is not. The rack uses the last two mounting points and the one on top of the fender (point where a 2 up seat bolts on). Sissy bar comes off in about 10 seconds. Rack would take a bit longer.

Cheers Mate. I like the look of that sissy bar, bit surprised that HH quoted about the same price as the other style where you can choose different height / backrest etc.

This is the one that I managed to find for my Sporty, still have to grind down the side rego plate mount for it to fit better but it looks nice and clean when fitted.

that bar look really nice. my only issue would be no place to mount a backrest. mainly got mine so my lady could jump on the back.

    Hey Sida,
I am assuming these parts are the same for the 883? From memory the frame is the same to a point.

    Also a little off topic
What happened to your 17L tank?

    Cheers

not sure what you mean about a 17l tank. I had the small 7.9L tank on when i got the bike and now have the 12.5 L tank off a nightster/iron
