110 wake up

I have been riding a 2008 CVO 110 Springer for the last few weeks or so.
It's not mine but a very generous friend.
First it was the brakes that pissed me off so I got them half working with fluid replacement and a set of Lyndall pads.
Now I would have thought the motor should have been a bit stronger than what it is. Every thing seems in order with only 15000km,s on it. Recently the owner got the recall work done for head replacement which he had to pay for as time was up long ago.
After the heads were done it wept bad from the cylinder bases so they pulled it down to replace the O rings and did a set of rings while it was down.
It should be about as good a they get stock.
Has AC and pipes fitted to it.
I want to waken it up a little with maybe a set of cams and perhaps .030" HG and a descent tune.
Currently has a Thunder Max that doesn't agree with the bike most days so I may change that out as well.

What is the suggestions for cams?
He was thinking of going stage 4 kit but since it is virtually all new I suggest he just looks at a simple improvement first.

    Any other ideas?

    Any help appreciated.

My 2008 CVO Springer has the "stock" cams , they're 255's from the factory.

It also has a V&H Big shot staggered exhaust system , with the " power chamber" or balance pipe.

The "pointy forward" heavy breather was also stock OEM on these bikes ( in the states at least !)

With a TTS tune , that bike of mine goes really well. Not just the "seat of the pants" but against all my mates with 103's with cams etc etc

The V&H would not have been my first choice of exhaust system , but it was on it in Texas.

Too loud for me, but seems to work well on this bike !

In short . just try the TTS system before you put money into anything else IMHO

Again, try the TTS system with "stock" CVO components

Your problem may indeed be the Thundermax. Been on since 2008 most likely ?

I have removed a few T-Max units before now , replaced the stock ECM and O2 sensors , used the TTS system and the bikes ran WAY better with better fuel economy to boot.

A bit of knuckle skinning labour involved with that , and you're hoping the dude has the original ECM stored in a dry place !

To be honest , all those mates of mine with the 103's with cams and all the rest , they're "dots in the mirror" very quickly.

Maybe I just struck lucky , it can happen with Harleys

PS The exhaust is sooo important on these 2008 CVO Springers , what system is on it ? Could be that easily enough.
Some systems are just SHIT for performance

I will definitely swap out the thundermax but it will be to what ever the guy doing the dyno tuning recommends. probably a dynojet product I think since that's his back ground although he will tune anything.

All the original parts are well stored.
Currently has V&h 2:1 BIG RADIUS, not the best system but it has performed well on several bikes before.

Yep some are better than others just down to tolerances of the bits on the day but none should be dogs.

Anyone know what the head chamber volume on these is? Cant really pick a cam till I work out what the Compression will be.

Currently has V&h 2:1 BIG RADIUS

That may be the problem mate. Only trouble is that it is perhaps the best looking 2:1. Most all the others are " well fugly "

Cheapest try will be the stock OEM headers ( downpipes ) and a pair of good slip-on mufflers.

Slash-down Khromewerks or Rush racing if you want the stock look . Same mufflers as a 2007 to 2013 Fatboy.

2nd hand on Gumtree and ebay no worries. I've seen them at $200 in perfect nick

I think the "Aussie" CVO's had that wanker flapper valve same as the 96ers, so peg that open ( screw or rivet ! )

I'd be trying that before putting hundreds/thousands into the motor myself

A mate of mine here in Perth has 2008 CVO springer he bought new , and he has tried 6 different exhaust configs.( Loadsa money !)

He found after all that that stock OEM headers and S&S mufflers were the best POWER/TORQUE without ridic' loudness. But not " sexy" looking.

He has now settled on a Kuryakyn 2:1:2 , looks like V&H big shot staggered , but a wee tad quieter

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3BH4DijrfU

Kuryakyn also has an extensive  menu of TTS calibrations or " MAPS " for all models and plenty for the 110 cube for FREE download

And IMHO you do not need any " Dyno-time". I've tuned loads of bikes now, often using those Kuryakyn cal' downloads

    http://www.kuryakyn.com/products/1620/tts-mastertune

Search the dropdown menu half way down this webpage, Listed by "Platform" , but there are 110 "touring" cals that will work as well.

Mike R sent us a cam to install into a cvo 110.. Bolt in deal no need for head work, high compression pistons etc. Bike had a V&H power dual head pipe on it when it showed up. That is the base line as it was dropped off to us. We install the cam and the crusher mufflers and tuned it. Bike runs great. .

Kuryakyn gear right ? The mufflers mentioned are for sure.

Most likely a dresser ( touring ) platform . As you know they're KINKY for them in the US

    A fly by wire throttle on that one ( says it's a 2012 ) . Could be a 2012 CVO Heritage , but unlikely.

A mate of mine has a 2010 Ultra limited 103" with that V&H power dual ( no cat !) downpipe,Klockwerks mufflers a TTS cal from Kuryakyn.

Never been near a Dyno and for a bagger the bike runs real good. Has SE 255 cams fitted in LA before he imported it. ( $350 US fitted !)
