Paying for city road tolls

Might be of interest for country riders.

Trip from country NSW to Brisbane via Sydney.  Was told to get 30 day pass for all Sydney toll roads as I would be riding around the city , which I did.  Got back home , and started to get in the mail all these toll charges, (5 in total).   They  were all about $3 to 5 plus $10 admin fee on top.  I thought what the fuck !!!   I rang Roam Express, (one of the mobs that organise all toll charges), the girl on the phone , says yes you are registered with a tempory pass. I told her I was riding a motorcycle.  She said , there is the problem !!    When I first rang for the temp pass of course I gave the rego , I can't remember if I said motorcycle.    I had to ring all the different toll companies with a reference number to have all the admin  fees taken off.     So moral of the story,  make sure when you get a temp toll road  pass you tell them you riding a motorcycle !!!!!    Cheers

Sucks doesn't it. I remember a few years ago rang for a pass but one motorway wasn't covered so copped a bill for it plus admin fees. Had a dummy spit got the admin fees dropped.

I know there's pros and cons with tolls, but I'm against them.

I guess if I had to drive through a metropolitan area at peak hour to get to and from work, I might feel different, but I don't, so I'm against them.

But thanks for the heads-up.....I'll definitely avoid Sydney from now on.....

we went through Go Via in Brisbane with a casual pass, we had no problems

why would it matter if it was a car or bike, (except if they are different rates) the rego should ID you

Mate , thats what I would of  thought.   The tolls in Brisbane worked ok with the causal toll payment . I probably told the Brisbane toll people I was riding a motorcycle. The Sydney mob said if you dont tell them' motorcycle' the cameras think its a car , and the rego you give them does'nt match up  Seems strange the computer systems cant pick up the difference between a car and a bike when the rego is in their computer system.  . Bloody computers, they seem to pick up everything else in out lives !!!!!   Anyway , thats what I was told.

Just get your local mate to add your bike to his account and pay him for the tolls then he can delete your bike when you no longer need it.

    Thanks ozymax,

That seems to be the best way to do it.  But those that dont have any mates, make sure you tell them your riding a motorcycle !!

Oh Sparra,   the answer to your question re, who's got the pub in Sydney now,   it's Tom Waterhouse, he's everywhere, can't miss him   !!!!    Cheers Lads .

    Hi Robots,

i got my late notices about 2 weeks after I returned home (from Sydney), Victoria I would assume would be similar.  Keep checking your mail !!!!

About 3 weeks ago I had a relative from Victoria stay and I bought them a Melbourne newspaper. Front page  was article regarding motorcycles getting away with speeding fines going through "fixed" speed cameras .  I take it that Victorian and other parts of Australia have similar fixed speed cameras.  Anyway, the problem was because bikes only have number plate on rear, they were taking photo of speeding bike , but could 'nt i ndentify  bike because cameras took photo of front of bike, (no front number plate).  There was talk about bikes having front and rear plates to rectify this. As I dont get Melbourne papers I dont know whats came of this.

I know we are discussing road toll fee's, but it seems some camera systems, (toll roads and fixed speed cameras),  take photos of front and rear of vehicles ,  some front only.  And in my experience ,(see first post),  if you get a caual toll pass and dont tell them your riding a motorcycle, they will identify your rego but the computer system does'nt recconise that you have organised a casual pass,    Fucked if I know.      Anyone work for , or having anything to do with the traffic authorities that can shed some light on the subject ????

I know there are some that may think , who gives a flying fuck about this topic,   but a lot of us are on the road a lot , and it would be nice to get the heads up on the situation !!   Cheers .
