Hi Guys,
Could anyone point me in the direction of a good Evo mechanic in the Perth area, that does not cost an arm and a leg.
The local Harley agent does not work on older than 2000 models, so they are not interested in looking at my 97 Dyna Super glide.
Thanks
Thanks I will give him a call, any others come to mind?
Thanks fellas,
I brought the bike over with me from NZ.
Took it over the pits and now have it registered in Aussie.
The bike never had any major problems, but suddenly I have the following problems.
1) Developed an oil leak, bottom of oil drain on primary case, this seems to be running down from rear top of case, suspect I will have to remove the primary and replace all seals. (slow leak so I have some time to repair)
2)Replaced exhaust with stock standard one, so as to get it across the pits, the problem now, is that it backfires, splutters and farts through the carb & exhaust and surges when riding. At idle there does not seem to be a problem, but as soon as you accelerate it starts to misbehave quite badly. Once up to 100km per hour and in top gear it stops, but you can still feel it surging and not running quite right.
When I had the previous standard exhaust with the baffels removed, it did a similar thing, but stopped after opening it up on the highway for 5 -10 minutes. It would them perform well until the next weekend ride, then the same procedure.
3)Bike has done 73000km and was thinking I should have the cam bearings, lifters, pushrods and any other wear shorted. Harley shop in NZ said these should be replaced around the 80 000km mark, because if any of these components failed, I would be in for big money. (any comments on this welcome)
I can live with number 1 & 3, but number 2 is driving me nuts, hence the request for a reasonable priced EVO mechanic & depending on the cost, it might be cost effective to have number 1, 2 & 3 sorted at the same time.
And so the battle continues.
Thanks Guys,
I will have a bit of a play with the exhaust & carb this coming weekend.
Must the cam lifters be replaced at 50 000km or 50 000miles which would equate the 80 000km as suggested in NZ?
Thanks for the clarification Kiwidave.
Think I have found the oil leak & it appears I have fixed it satisfactory.
The leak was coming from the lower rocker cover, running down and ending up at the bottom of the primary drain plug.
I replaced the gaskets on the rear cylinder rocker covers and the leak is now gone.
Hope this helps someone else.
Thanks for the input guys.
Cheers
