got the call from the shop

the cluncky knock in the front cylender has been confermed as

    A collapsed cam bearing

it has fell apart and wrecked the cams, crank, pistons and engine

I am glad I put the bike in for a look althow I am now in the hole for around $5500

lucky, I needed new rear brake pads and rotor another $350

glad I am night shift, need news like that first thing in the morning to help me sleep

Damn, that's bad news! How many K's did the motor have on it? Is it an early Twin Cam?

2004 nightrain (carby) 28000ks standard engine, services as per schedule
    that would make it expensive

Good question Will. When I changed out my cams I also replaced my bearings with Andrews Torrington bearings. The early twin cams had issues with both bearings and cam chain tensioners. I was kind of paranoid (too much Pink Floyd), so I replaced the lot!

    Cheers fellas
I have decided to go the upgrade option. I will ride away with a 103cui with 204 cams 80hp with 100ftlbs approx
it will drop my savings by around $6k but that's better than no bike

living on the edge of the desert does limit options for good repair or general maintenance, not saying we don't have some local services but....

Rode home from Adelaide today, What a difference, the fuel economy improved and the power increase is very noticeable.
    made overtaking a breeze

I will be keeping a real eye out now for the police, it has got loader, significantly.

what a great day, caught the 06:00 bus into Adelaide arrived 11:40, paid for and rode out, after a false start, back to the shop to have the fuel gauge fixed, hit the rode.
no rain but you could see were there was some, bloody cold, one stop for fuel and a coffee, got home at 18:00

and a new rear tire, battery tender and rear rotor and pads in with the original quote

did I mention loud, the wife come outside as I pulled in the driveway, she heared me down the street, from inside.

my grand daughter would not come outside until the bike was silenced, then her only words were "poppy, you motorbike is too load"
