Blinker Colours - Legal or Not ?

I am in Victloria (may be relevant).

Bought a smoke lenses for my Sporty, which came with replacement (amber) globes.

Rear globes were compatible but front not compatible so I have left the stock globes in and will return the new ones when I get a chance.

Issue is that with the smoke lenses I now have 'white' coloured blinkers,  they look shit-hot on my predominantly black and & chrome bike (much better than the amber ones), and would like to leave them as they are now.

But are they legal or do blinkers have to be amber in colour by law ??????

Have spent the last few days checking out both cars and bikes and have seen only one car with white coloured blinkers which may be a mod ?

Any advice would be appreciated cos don't want a ticket/fine.

    Cheers

ADR (Australian Design Rules) 06 is your reference. Amber is the colour.

Run the Amber bulbs and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise its a turky shoot depending upon what mood the cops are in.

You should have got two extra amber bulbs with the kit to suit the bike.
In the kit, two globes fit right and two dont fit so they usually give you two single pole amber globes to suit.
Ask where you bought your kit from for them.
Remember ozz's consumer laws say if an item is not fit for use you can take it back............... That is one very good example.
    Give it a try.

I find it a bit strange that the fronts are different to the rears.

The front bulbs supplied in the kits are for U.S. , cause they have running lights . Aussie dealers give you 2 to go with the kit for our bikes . All orange bulbs .So our front blinkers are off all the time and turn on to blink . The U.S. front blinkers are on all the time and turn off to blink .

    Thanks guys.

Hey Tim S.G. - I have just returned the kit to my local Harley dealership where purchased, only to be told that the double filament front globes that come with the kit are redundant(Throw-aways) and that I need to purchase two new compatible amber globes @ $5.50each ..... so much for the dealer 'giving' 2 globes to go with the kit !!

So the kit at $50 is obviously less than a (full) kit for this market.

    Good old HD again.

    Cheers

Yep you are getting ripped off. My earlier post said that you should get them for free. Take the two shit ones back and get replacement 2 for spares now. The double pole ones dont fit so why should you pay for them? It may only be 11 bucks but it is the principal of the thing.

The U.S. front blinkers are on all the time and turn off to blink .

    Not strictly true

US market AKA "Domestic" have a twin filament globe ( bulb) much like our Aussie brakelight globes

The low watt one is on all the time, (can't see it during the day !) and the higher watt filament glows when you indicate

Called "running lights" in the US I believe

I've reinstated them on my ex-yank CVO Springer because I can and I think they're cool and a good idea.

In answer to the original question then the lights have to SHOW amber , method of doing so not relevant

Some Aussie market cars have clear lenses and amber globes from the get-go

Frasers sell the smoked lens kit and just throw in an additional pair of single filament amber globes as previously said as to make it a complete kit .

Shoulda said this in my earlier post ( sorry )

If anyone has any amber ( or clear ) twin filament US spec globes in their kits that they can't use , I would appreciate them.

Can't buy them in Perth obviously, ( at least when i had a quick look ). Must ask the HD dealer if he has redundant ones ?

At some stage i'll need them for my "Yank spec" bike for sure , and some of my mates also have " grey imports"

Happy to pay postage obviously .

PM me if you have any ?

(Apologies for the thread hijack !)

Seems I'm gunna have to ask for these twin filament ( US spec ) indicator globes in Frasers Perth

That'll go down well as they HATE grey imports haha...

I think in reality online from the US is the way to go, just not from a Harley dealer as they can't send them no more !

Thanks for the offer Wayne , appreciated. Don't " urgently need " them right now so to speak , globes are usually a " distress purchase "

Would be good to have a coupla spares on the shelf is all so I may take you up on that offer. Will check in Perth and see availability

I keep multiple spare globes in the shed for Justin ( justin case !) Capless miniatures , halogen headlights , stop/tails etc etc.

I have not actually investigated the 5W20W or whatever these are. Do you know offhand ?

If they're " the same" wattage as stop/tail globes then that's good ,easy to get and I can "paint" them

I still have a wee bottle of amber globe / lens paint I used to use on Yankee import cars to change the reverse lights to indicators back when I was " into " Yankee cars . I would coat the globes AND the inside of the white lenses. Amber as all fuck then they were !!
