Just joined here to say hello, gain support and information on our HD purchase and get some hints and tips on our upcoming Stugis trip.
I am an avid biker (Motorcross, Speedway, Enduro, Road) though I am only on the cusp of my first HD purchase, and get this "at the request of the lovely Miss Tania" yep she demands I get a Harley....Who's a lucky boy!!!
Well anyway I have been researching at length the best route given the time frame for our Sturgis Bucket List item and have come up with the following and I would be interested to hear from others that might be on this trip also or have anything to add in helping us do all the right things.
Aug 1 Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Kayenta, Grand Junction, Steam Boat Prings, Cheyenne, Mount Rushmore
Aug 9-11 Sturgis
Thoughts on what to pack regarding clothing, temp's, Camping backup, alternative route, other. We do not yet have any accommodation in Sturgis, am aware we have left this late byt wonder if any cabins may be available on arrival.
Best Sturgis Bar to visit?
Appreciate any support and would look forward to meeting up with any other riders heading that way.
Peter
welcome aboard pete enjoy the ride, mate if you haven't got a booking yet you could check out Lamphere Ranch Campground about 3 miles out of town on Hwy 34, (www.LamphereRanch.com)(email lamphere@sturgiscamping.com) camping is the best way to go, weather should be good that time of the year, just pack gear you would normally get around in when it's summer here, but remember it can get cold anywhere at the drop of a hat, plenty of good bars and quite a few to avoid, Buffalo Chip is good I'm told.
This info I have given you is from a close and reliable friend I didn't make it to Sturgis last time I was there so I went to the Golden Aspen Rally In Ruidoso New Mexico not as big as Sturgis but still bloody good, any way good luck. ( Golden Aspen Rally is September 18 to 22 )
Bahl,
Thank you for the welcome message and the heads up on Sturgis, I will for sure check out the Lamphere Ranch, I am not a fan of camping myself but will make do of any situation should there be no cabins available and am taking tent and sleeping bags just in case.
Hopefully the weather is great as I would prefer to go to work than ride in the cold and wet eeeew...Just in case though we will be taking wet weather gear and minimal luggage/clothing.
Welcome Peter .
Welcome Peter, enjoy your trip to the States.
