your best bet is to slip into a dealer and sit on a couple, I would say a Nightrain, because I like the reach for the bars, others go a Fatboy for the sit up ride, the ladies get a VagDYNA for the rubber mount and the necklace shock accessory's,.
You could buy yourself an urn, they come in a few different versions, I think the Muscle is the pick, other like the Night rod better,

YOU will have to take some of the suggestions from the forum guys but get in and feel them for your self

I would avoid the step through scooter, 135K's would get you having to leave a bit early.

Mate your going to get heaps of opinions.  I ride an electra glide,  mostly country touring.       Lets start, is this your first bike??  .   if not you should be able to handle the weight of the heaver models.  A bit of city , freeway , and I hope cruising on the weekends with you mates.  Dont discard the Swithback, a mate of mine has one , does the riding your talking about, and loves it,  you can strip it down or pack it up.  Only problem is , you may get the Road Queen tag a bit !!    Other than that, get a few mates that have been riding awhile, go to a dealer and test ride bikes that you think may fit the bill , and your arse. !!    My 2 cents worth.

Personally I would go for as little chrome as possible as keeping it clean would be a PITA obviously it's all opinions but I would look at the V-rods if I needed a bike for a daily ride.

As said go to a dealer and ride several bikes but don't buy there and then go and think it over. That way you should be fairly certain that the bike you choose is right for you.

Seriously though if you need to come on a forum and ask what sort of Harley you should get,  you probably either have to much money or are buying one for the wrong reason.  I would ask why you want a Harley? Is it the experience, the cool factor or the ridabilty?

Harley has demo days every year, you can try as many as you need, find one you like the look of, and try it, simple. I am also a converted dirt rider, I have just gone from my CRF450 to my FLSTC, I liked the look of it, it felt good so I bought it, you don't buy a bike because someone else told you to, or am I missing something here. I have always bought what I want, when I want, I am only interested in pleasing myself not everyone else.

I have to say I don't get it either!! If you don't even know what Harley you like to start with, you have to have a good look in the mirror.

All of them will do the job, well except maybe the new peanut tank models.

When I went to look at my first HD, I knew exactly what I wanted.

For that kind of mileage year round there is only a couple of choices. StreetGlide or Ultra Classic. I sugest the Ultra with a heated seat and grips or heated clothing for the cooler weather. You got your tunes and radio for traffic alerts and a whole lot of wind knockdown and comfortabel riding. Oh yes-- has got to be a black one...

Funny that I own one and recommend it......

I ride 170km round trip every day, usually all year round unless I have errands or am having a drink then I take the car/bus & train.

I ride a 2010 Street Bob from the twisty mountains roads down the highway, then onto the freeway then through the CBD. I’m 6’6 so I have a lower seat, forwards and apes. And can ride 1000km days in comfort.

You need to ask yourself a few questions.

    1) Do need to carry gear? because that is a big part, not just what bikes are comfy. I keep all my work gear at work so I don’t need to carry any gear.
    2) Will you be riding in all weather? This is where the Street bob lacks for me because even if the road is wet I tend to get soaked feet, lower legs and lower back because of the lack of fender coverage.
    3) Can you afford to maintain whatever bike you go for? Unless you’re doing all the maintenance yourself make friends with a good indy.
    4) Can you park it somewhere half safe? I’m luckily just out of the CBD so I have plenty of options.
    5) Do you mind stopping for fuel?

If I had to make the decision over again I would MAYBE go with either a Road or Street Glide, for extra weather protection and to be able to carry gear when I go on longer rides. Hearing the traffic reports as you ride is a bonus too. Also an extra litre of fuel can’t hurt.

But I’m super happy with the Bob and wouldn’t swap it for anything.

Buy a cheap commuter bike and keep your Harley for the weekends

I drive the car to work, personally if I rode my bike to work I wouldnt enjoy riding it as much on the weekends
