are there any cheap fixes to get better braking on my 2008 Heritage softail. Coming from twin disc jap bikes I really notice the lack of power in the front brake. Does fitting better pads make any difference. I never got a manual with the bike so not sure what types of line is used, it doesn't look like rubber, if it is obviously an upgrade to braided would help,

    cheers Steve.

I put a braided front on mine when I had it and it did make a difference. Give yourself some time and you do get used to it. You do adjust your riding to suit the brakes. If you want a real thrill, try an older evo with a stock single disc when ya overheated on a fast bend. One of my second bikes was an MV Augusta and hopping from that to the flh was always an experience in terror when ya braked and nothing happened for what seemed a bloody long time..LOL... If ya do put braided lines on, check the fluid type first as they changed back to dot 4 from dot 5 around that time for the intro of the abs systems. If it is dot 5, don't use dot 5.1 as its a variant of dot 4 and not compatible. Good luck..

    Steve.
ps the bike has dot 5 in it as it changed before I picked it up do to corroding the canisters, had nice chrome lids put on too.

de-glaze the disc & pads,     give  the disc  clean  with some solvent ,dry rub disc surface with 400-600 grit sand paper you will notice the difference

mate I tried to stay away from bikes but they keep calling me back. I figure I cant ride the Heritage real fast so hopefully I will be good on it. I am hoping to fix the front brakes a little at least as they are pretty woeful standard. I had nearly 2 years on the jet skis and my last one was pretty impressive, put out about 270hp and did about 75mph which on the water is bloody quick.
I saw a post on here somewhere today about braided lines and the bloke recommended him but cant find it now lol.

cheers thanks, it does look like a small diameter braided that's why I asked. I have googled it but can't find any info about the line only the disc's and calipers.

If you wanted a bike that brakes better you should have bought a sports bike!  You need to change your riding style. A set of lyndell brake pads and braided lines make a heap of difference. They did for me.
