went for a nice run down to pemberton yesterday and came back up today. weather was great on the way down and we did a bit of scenic route getting there via collie. original plan coming back was slow ride up with some more scenic routes and stop for lunch & bevy or two. awoke this morning in pemberton to rain, fair bit of too. pretty much rained & drizzled until we got about 40km south of perth.
heres the thing, still actually enjoyed most of the trip back. got over being wet by the end of it but for at least the first half i was actually enjoying get soaked and riding in the rain. it wasnt cold at all which probably made a huge difference. dont ride that much in the wet and it has been awhile since have but must say it was nice change. kind of odd.
whats peoples thoughts on wet weather riding ?
When i rode to work everyday, I didn't like getting wet on the way to work. PITA. But on the way home like you said KC. when it's not cold, I loved the rain and didn't mind getting wet at all. But yeah not much fun wet and cold, that's the breaker. The DR was a great work bike and had just as much grip in the wet except on fuggin roundabouts.
On the Ultra i'll let you know when it happens! lol
Keep your eye out for water buffalo and always carry a towel.
If you dont ride in the rain, you dont ride!
If ya live in South Gippsland its a joy to ride in the dry!!
If ya got the right gear , not a problem .
As I posted previously I went from Queensland to Wollongong, it rained at least 5 times during my trip all without wet weather gear, I passed trucks in either direction and I was not bothered by the truckies at all !! in fact they were very curtious and gave me room in which way they were heading. The guys out there who have been up or down the coast from Brisbane or wollongong will know how many trucks are out there late at night or early hour of the mornings, example 12 midnight to 3 or 4 am.
The people you really have to look out for are these City car and truck drivers, while riding from Laidley to Brisbane and along the express way down to tweed heads the cars and trucks gave me more trouble than anything I encountered, And yes it was raining off and on from Laidley to Coffs Harbour.
Wet is ok, but I hate the cold. used to avoid riding in the rain, but after getting soaked a few times you get over it.
For most it's more about not getting the bike dirty and that just makes me laugh.
Just stay safe guys. Sliding into a intersection with a red light is not much fun, but spinning the rear wheel in 1st and 2nd leaving the lights is !
