Hello from the gold coast ,Ive been looking at building something for local riding ,ive already got a cruiser for away riding but would like to build a chopper .some thing with a bit of power maybe an sas motor with a six speed baker gear box.its been a long time since I've had any thing to do with choppers and I believe there's a few new rules and regulations with the construction on front ends .also wondering how the springer front ends go with a  300 arse end. Hope I've come to the right spot  , thanks

Hi there, welcome to the site. I hope you can find the answers to your questions. How about contacting your RTA, or speak to any local bike builders for some sort of guidelines. All the best with your project.

Thanks for the welcome a healthy imagination is good . Just an old school look with a fat arse tyre with modern technology , pretty basic build.

G'day Sseltug (gutless backward ... why would you do that?).
I'm not sure why you'd want a springer front end and a wide arse back end, but hey, to each his own and like you say, a healthy imagination is good.

If you do it yourself from bits like you've described, you'll need an engineer to certify it before the DoT will even look at it, and then they'll fine-tooth-comb it themselves, generally. So I'd find me an engineer first up.
You might do better to start with something that already has a springer front end, like a cross bones, and then fit a certified/certifiable wide arse kit.

As for how it'd ride, only springer I ever rode showed me why telescopic forks were invented...
Good luck with it, and get us some pics up when you start, eh?

Thanks for the advice I have ridden with a springer front end never really had an issue with it under normal riding conditions and I like the appearance . Being a bit different is what I want as long as it has dot approval I will be a happy chappy . If you want progressive pictures ,that's okay as it will be a while before it is completedkl,
