hello folks, my 2002 fatboy is leaking oil from the right front fork. its my first harley so im not too clued up on the mechanicals of the bike in general but i am a fitter by trade and handy enough. i have always owned jap bikes with centre stands which makes things easier. if i do the job myself is it nessesary to get a bike lift and is there anything i dont know that i should know? thanks for any help
have you pulled down the bike too hard on the front forks on the back of a trailer or ute
A bike lift is almost compulsory for that sort of front end work. It's not a hard job to do but it can take all day if your not in a hurry. Ideally you should replace both oil seals at the same time. Run your hand over the slide tubes and feel for stone chips or nicks as that's a common cause of this type of leak. If you find a raised spot you can just smooth it off with a ultra fine file or stone. No special tools really... Fitting the seal can be a bugger, but I use a giant socket to help press/hammer it in.
